Netflix has released new stills for the upcoming Korean drama The Scandal, giving viewers a closer look at the complicated relationships between the three main characters played by Son Ye Jin, Ji Chang Wook, and Nana. The images show each character in very different situations, setting up a story full of secrets, desire, and risky choices set in the Joseon Dynasty.

What The Scandal Is About
The Scandal is a Netflix original series that takes the classic story of Dangerous Liaisons and moves it to the Joseon Dynasty period in Korea. The drama shows a risky and dangerous love game between three people whose lives become connected through a secret bet.
Son Ye Jin plays Lady Cho, a noblewoman with exceptional talent and charm who refuses to accept the limits placed on women during that time. She proposes a secret wager to Cho Won, played by Ji Chang Wook, who is known as the greatest playboy of Joseon. The bet? Cho Won must seduce Hui Yeon, a virtuous widow played by Nana. If Cho Won wins, his prize is Lady Cho herself.
The story explores what happens when desires are forbidden and people must hide their true feelings.
What the New Stills Show
The newly released stills capture the three characters in very different situations.
Lady Cho’s Hidden Side
One still shows Son Ye Jin as Lady Cho sitting in the inner quarters. But unlike the typical noblewoman look, she appears with her hair down, wearing a traditional undershirt, and holding a tobacco pipe. This image shows a different side of Lady Cho, one that exists behind closed doors away from the public eye.
Cho Won’s Playboy Nature
Ji Chang Wook appears as Cho Won gazing at a woman with a sly expression on his face. Another still shows him sitting confidently among women. These images show his reputation as Joseon’s greatest ladies’ man.
Hui Yeon’s Difficult Life

All three characters have a significant gap between their ‘revealed self’ and ‘hidden self.’ The psychological tension arising from being exposed or eavesdropped will be the highlight.
The drama is a remake of the 2003 Korean film Untold Scandal, which starred Bae Yong Joon, Jeon Do Yeon, and Lee Mi Sook. That film was itself inspired by the 1782 French novel Dangerous Liaisons by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos.
