Hulu has released the first official trailer for The Testaments, the sequel series to the global phenomenon The Handmaid’s Tale. The preview offers a haunting look at the next chapter of Gilead, focusing on a new generation of young women growing up in the theocracy.
The series will premiere on April 8, 2026, with three episodes dropping on the same day. New episodes will follow weekly after that. The show will be available on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ in the US, and on Disney+ in other countries .
Aunt Lydia Returns Alongside a New Generation
Ann Dowd reprises her role as Aunt Lydia, the fearsome matriarch of Gilead’s training system. The trailer shows her overseeing an elite preparatory school for the daughters of Commanders, a place where obedience is taught through brutality .
The story introduces two new central characters. Chase Infiniti plays Agnes, June Osborne’s daughter who was taken from her as a child. Now a teenager, Agnes has grown up inside Gilead and believes in its rules. Lucy Halliday plays Daisy, a young woman arriving from Canada who quickly realizes the true horror of the regime .
The trailer shows the growing bond between the two girls. Daisy tells Agnes, “I have to save those girls,” hinting at the resistance brewing inside the school’s walls .
The cast also includes Mabel Li as Aunt Vidala, Amy Seimetz as Paula, and Brad Alexander as Garth. Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya, and Kira Guloien round out the ensemble .
A Story Rooted in Margaret Atwood’s Award-Winning Novel
The series is based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel of the same name. The book won the Booker Prize and serves as a direct sequel to her original work, The Handmaid’s Tale. The story is set roughly 15 years after the events of the original novel .
The official synopsis describes the world where these young women have no memories of the time before Gilead. They face a future of being married off to powerful men and living lives of complete servitude. Agnes and Daisy must search for allies to fight for the lives they deserve .
Bruce Miller, the showrunner behind The Handmaid’s Tale, created the sequel and serves as executive producer. Elisabeth Moss, who starred as June Osborne in the original series, is also an executive producer on this project. Mike Barker directed the first three episodes and the finale.
First Trailer Sets a Dark and Tense Mood
The trailer uses the song “Dreams” by The Cranberries to create an eerie contrast between the peaceful images of the school and the dark reality underneath. It opens with Agnes describing how she used to believe in the world of Gilead. The visuals shift quickly to show hanging bodies, intense confrontations, and the growing tension among the students .
The preview makes it clear that while the setting has shifted to a school for girls, the danger and oppression remain. Daisy’s arrival from outside Gilead serves as the spark that could change everything for Agnes and the other students.
