The White Lotus is officially back in production, and the new season brings a major setting change that fans will love. Mike White has chosen the French Riviera as the backdrop for the fourth installment of the HBO hit series. Cameras started rolling on April 15, 2026, across multiple stunning locations in the South of France. The big news this time involves the famous Cannes Film Festival playing a key role in the story.

This marks a smart move for the show. After exploring Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand, the series moves to Europe again but with a fresh twist. The glitz and glamour of a major film festival fits perfectly with the show’s love for wealthy, messy characters. The official logline from HBO confirms that season four follows a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over one week, with the action taking place during the Cannes Film Festival.

Filming Locations Bring French Riviera Luxury to Life

Production is currently happening across the French Riviera. The team is shooting in Cannes, St. Tropez, and Monaco. There will also be some filming in Paris, but the main story stays along the Côte d’Azur. Two luxury hotels have been picked to stand in for the fictional White Lotus properties. The Airelles Château de la Messardière will serve as the White Lotus du Cap. The Hôtel Martinez becomes the White Lotus Cannes.

Mike White talked about wanting to change the show’s look this season. He said he wanted to move away from the ocean-focused settings of past seasons. The French Riviera offers a different kind of beauty with its hillside views and famous coastline. The Cannes Film Festival setting also allows White to explore the film industry and celebrity culture. He shared on the official White Lotus podcast that he wanted to satirize “movies and fame and celebrity” similar to what he did with art criticism in the first season.

Star-Studded Cast List for Season Four

The cast for The White Lotus Season 4 is one of the biggest yet. Helena Bonham Carter leads the group of new guests. French actor Vincent Cassel joins her, along with British comedian Steve Coogan. Other names include Alexander Ludwig, AJ Michalka, Chris Messina, and Kumail Nanjiani. Chloe Bennet, Max Greenfield, and Charlie Hall have also signed on for recurring roles.

New additions announced in March 2026 brought even more talent. Heather Graham, Rosie Perez, and Ben Schnetzer joined the project. Scandinavian actors Frida Gustavsson and Tobias Santelmann, plus French actress Laura Smet, round out the growing list. Sandra Bernhard and Ari Graynor are also part of the ensemble. With 24 cast members confirmed so far, HBO says casting is still ongoing.

The official logline reads:

“The fourth season will follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival.”

No Release Date Yet for The White Lotus Season 4

Fans will need patience before watching the new episodes. HBO has not announced a premiere date for The White Lotus Season 4. The show typically takes time to produce. Season one came out in July 2021, season two in October 2022, and season three arrived in February 2025. Given that filming just started in April 2026, a 2027 release seems likely.

HBO content chairman Casey Bloys suggested the show might aim for the 2027 Emmy cycle. This timeline matches the show’s usual production schedule. Mike White writes and directs every episode himself, which adds to the wait time. But HBO renewed the show for season four back in January 2025, even before season three aired, showing strong confidence in the series. Season three pulled in 12.2 million viewers per episode on average, a 78 percent jump from season two.

The hotels chosen for filming offer real luxury. Suites at the Château de la Messardière can cost between $3,000 to $8,000 per night. This matches the show’s tradition of using real high-end resorts as characters in the story. Past seasons used the Four Seasons properties in Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand. HBO has not renewed its contract with Four Seasons for season four, opening up new options.

Mike White also shared that the tone for season four might feel different. He told Elle magazine the new season will be “fun and funnier” compared to the heavier themes of season three, which explored death and Eastern religion. But he also promised there is “always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.”
