The line between your TV screen and the movie theater is getting very thin right now. Hollywood has fully embraced video game adaptations, and some of the most popular titles are getting turned into major films. From gothic horror adventures to legendary fantasy quests, here are the biggest game-based movies you need to know about.
Bloodborne Animated Film Confirmed with YouTube Star Jacksepticeye
The 2015 PlayStation classic Bloodborne is officially becoming an animated movie. Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are working together on this project, and Irish YouTube star Seรกn McLoughlin, better known as Jacksepticeye, is joining as a co-producer.
The original game comes from FromSoftware, the same studio behind the famously tough Dark Souls series. Bloodborne stands out for its gothic Victorian setting and brutal combat that rewards patient, skilled players. Critics and fans still call it one of the greatest video games ever made, even though it has never received a sequel.
Right now, the plot and release date are still under wraps. But the team has promised to stay true to the spirit of the game. This marks a big career move for Jacksepticeye, who built his fame on YouTube gaming content and has recently started moving into acting work.
The Legend of Zelda Live-Action Movie Gets Earlier Release Date
The Legend of Zelda movie is coming to theaters on April 30, 2027. Nintendo recently moved the date up by one full week, showing confidence in the production schedule. Director Wes Ball, known for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is leading the project. Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto is also working as a producer.

The cast includes Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Filming in New Zealand wrapped up on April 7, 2026. Leaked set footage also shows Dichen Lachman (from Severance) on set, leading fans to believe she is playing Impa, the loyal Sheikah protector of the royal family. Lachman was seen wearing deep blue and grey tactical leather gear and carrying a long blade, matching the look of Sheikah warriors from the games.
Ghost of Tsushima Brings Samurai Action with John Wick Director
The hit 2020 samurai game Ghost of Tsushima is getting the movie treatment from Chad Stahelski, the director behind the John Wick series. The game takes place in feudal Japan during the first Mongol invasion in 1274. Players control Jin Sakai, a samurai who must break tradition and become a โghostโ warrior to save his people.
Stahelski is producing through his company 87Eleven Entertainment, working alongside PlayStation Productions. The original game sold over 6.5 million copies and earned massive praise for its beautiful open world and intense sword combat. Fans are excited to see Stahelskiโs action style applied to samurai duels.
Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat 2 Lead the Fighting Game Charge
Fighting game fans have two big movies to look forward to. Mortal Kombat 2 arrives in theaters on May 15, 2026. The sequel will continue the bloody, tournament-based story from the 2021 reboot.
Street Fighter follows on October 16, 2026. This marks another attempt to bring Capcomโs legendary fighting franchise to the big screen. Both movies promise the kind of over-the-top action and recognizable characters that fans expect from these classic games.

Gravity Rush Film in Development with New Director
PlayStationโs unique action-adventure game Gravity Rush is also becoming a movie. Anna Mastro is attached to direct from a script written by Emily Jerome. The original 2012 game featured a heroine named Kat who could manipulate gravity, allowing her to walk on walls and fall sideways through the air. The gameโs floating city of Hekseville and strange monsters called the Nevi created a very distinct visual style that could translate well to film.
Other Game Adaptations Coming Down the Line
Several other major titles are in different stages of development. Elden Ring, FromSoftwareโs massive 2022 hit, is also being adapted into a film. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is scheduled for March 19, 2027. The Angry Birds Movie 3 lands on January 29, 2027. Movies based on BioShock, Call of Duty, Days Gone, Death Stranding, Gears of War, The Sims, and Watch Dogs are all reportedly in the works with no set release dates yet.
