The official trailer for Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia‘s fantasy film The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest has arrived, and it places a rational man in direct conflict with ancient beliefs, a sacred forest, and a mysterious goddess. Released on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the 2-minute 44-second trailer sets up a story where a modern sceptic is pulled into a supernatural war he never believed in. What Happens in the Vvaan Trailer
The trailer opens with the legend of the Bhuttakas, described as dark forces of nature that are darker than the night and swifter than the storm. A village rule warns that anyone who enters the forest after sunset never returns alive. The story then moves to Mumbai, where Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia play a married couple living a peaceful city life. They travel back to their ancestral village for Chhath Puja.
Sidharth’s character is a man who does not believe in the myths surrounding the forest. He dismisses the tales as “utter rubbish” and is reluctant to visit what he calls a “cursed place.” Tamannaah’s character, on the other hand, believes the goddess herself has called them there. Her faith stands in sharp contrast to his scepticism.
The central conflict emerges when Sunil Grover‘s character tries to convince villagers to allow the sacred Vvaan Devi forest to be cleared for construction and development. Several villagers resist the proposal, setting up a battle between Vvaan Devi and development. Sidharth’s character eventually enters the forbidden forest at night despite the warnings. He gets injured and begins to experience strange visions. A priest tells him the goddess may be trying to show him something. The trailer then reveals a past-life connection, suggesting he was meant to save the forest in a previous life as well. He is later seen fighting goons and unknown forces to protect the forest and its traditions.
The trailer ends on a suspenseful note with veiled glimpses of an ageless warrior. A woman’s voice calls out, “Veer, whenever these mystical powers become a threat to humanity, you must come back, no matter which era it is.”
The Real-Life Folklore Behind the Film
The Vvaan draws direct inspiration from a real temple and a centuries-old legend. The story is rooted in the folklore surrounding the Van Devi Temple in Bihta, a town about 35 km from Patna, Bihar. The temple is believed to be around 400 years old.
Writer Arunabh Kumar shared the origin of the story in an interview with ANI. He explained that he used to visit the temple with his mother during Durga Puja. His mother told him the legend of the 16th-century shrine, and he found it deeply interesting.
“There were some things in that jungle that used to keep the locals on the periphery,” Kumar said.
According to the legend, the jungle surrounding the temple is home to both wildlife and negative energies. A learned man named Vidyanand Mishra performed penance and rituals to establish the Van Devi Temple. A strict rule is followed to this day: no one, including the temple priest, stays on the premises after evening prayers. It is believed that the Goddess roams around the temple and protects the locals from the negative energies residing in the jungle.
“So Vvaan is inspired by a real-life folklore surrounding this small temple of Van Devi, outside Patna, and we are very proud that, with the backing of Ektaa and the inspiration from my mother, we are bringing it to the big screen,” Kumar said.

The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest marks the first on-screen pairing of Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia. The film also stars Sunil Grover, Maniesh Paul, Shweta Tiwari, and Anup Soni in key roles.
The film is directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, who is known for directing the popular web series Panchayat. The story and screenplay are written by Arunabh Kumar, with dialogues by Anandeshwar Dwivedi. The film is presented by Balaji Motion Pictures, a division of Balaji Telefilms Ltd, in association with TVF and 11.11 Production. It is produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Arunabh Kumar, and Niraj Kothari.
