The April 21 episode of Will Trent delivered one of the show’s most emotional hours. Following the shocking death of GBI Deputy Director Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn) in the previous episode, Season 4 Episode 16, titled “Our Last Dance,” forced Will and the team to process their grief while hunting down Adelaide Clemens (Mallory Jansen) and rescuing Will’s uncle, Antonio (John Ortiz).

The episode showed a different side of Will Trent (Ramón Rodríguez). The usually controlled investigator nearly lost himself to rage. The team worked together to honor Amanda’s memory by finishing what she started.

Amanda’s Death Leaves the GBI Reeling

The episode opened at the crime scene. Medics prepared to take Amanda’s body away. Will stood in shock, unable to process what happened. Faith Mitchell (Iantha Richardson) arrived, visibly broken. Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen), Michael Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin), and Franklin Wilks (Kevin Daniels) surrounded them for support.

A medical technician referred to Amanda as “the body.” The impersonal words hit Will hard. When the techs tried to zip the body bag, Will stopped them. He asked to do it himself. Tears ran down his face as he closed the bag. Faith helped lift Amanda onto the gurney. The others joined in. Captain Heller (Todd Allen Durkin) recited a prayer as they carried her out. The scene played like a funeral procession.

Back at GBI headquarters, Evelyn Mitchell (LisaGay Hamilton), Faith’s mother and Amanda’s best friend, arrived to pay her respects. In the morgue, Medical Examiner Pete Chin (Kurt Yue) shared that Amanda fought back. Skin cells found under her nails helped identify one of her attackers. Evelyn spoke to Amanda’s body directly.

“I’ll be sure to grab that dress you like for the funeral, the one that you said makes you look like Angela Bassett. You took care of everyone all the time. Now it’s our turn to take care of you. This is our last dance.” – Evelyn Mitchell

Will Loses Control While Searching for Answers

Will’s grief turned into dangerous anger. He asked Caroline (Christina Wren) to pull Amanda’s records. He discovered she had been secretly working with the FBI to find Adelaide. When Bill Appleyard (Jason Davis), Amanda’s rival, walked into her office, Will screamed at him. Appleyard clarified he came to help, not to take her job.

Will and Faith returned to the crime scene. They found Amanda’s undercover car near a warehouse. Will spotted blood and Amanda’s cracked glasses. He reconstructed the attack in his mind. The team found signs that Antonio had been held there. Fresh groceries and ice suggested someone was still nearby.

Will chased a man through the warehouse. He caught Josh Hassen (Benjamin Aycrigg), a bartender connected to Adelaide. Will beat him so badly that he broke his ribs and caused the man to bite off part of his tongue. The suspect could no longer speak. Franklin and Ormewood pulled Will off him.

Faith confronted Will about his actions. Ormewood also stepped in with tough advice.

“I know you’re hurting, but rage isn’t the answer. Believe me, I know. The case will break on details, and details are your strength.” – Michael Ormewood

Evelyn Mitchell Shares Amanda’s Secret Mission

Evelyn revealed that Amanda had been tracking Adelaide’s acolytes for weeks. She kept this from everyone, including Will. The information helped the team understand Adelaide’s movements. Amanda had located a young man connected to “The Commander,” a mysterious figure linked to Adelaide’s network.

Faith and Franklin tracked down Stephan Lucas, the schoolteacher who killed Amanda. They found him dead in his car trunk. Adelaide was eliminating everyone connected to her. Josh Hassen was later strangled in his hospital bed. The team realized they were running out of time.

Will Interrogates The Commander

The team captured Alexander Stewart (Braelyn Rankins), the young man known as The Commander. Will questioned him in an interrogation room. He knew the boy was another of Adelaide’s followers who had been manipulated.

Will shared what Amanda meant to him.

“I know you don’t care, but I’m going to tell you a little bit about Amanda Wagner. Amazing woman. She was more than a boss to me. She was my Adelaide, plucked me out of obscurity. She was my mentor. Made me who I am today, just like Adelaide did for you. The only difference: Amanda Wagner never tried to kill me.” – Will Trent

The words broke through. Alexander agreed to share information about Adelaide’s acolytes. The team rounded up several followers. Most were already dead by Adelaide’s hand.

Franklin Gets Information From Janice-Teresa

Janice-Teresa Waggle (Wynn Everett), James Ulster’s former girlfriend, returned in this episode. She believed Ulster was still alive. Adelaide tricked her into believing they would reunite. Janice revealed the location of Ulster’s hidden money. Adelaide needed the cash because her funds had run dry.

Franklin made a deal with Janice. She could keep her contraband phone and continue making her viral videos if she told him where the money was hidden. The information set up the final confrontation with Adelaide.

Will Faces Adelaide in a Deadly Standoff

Will waited for Adelaide at the money drop location in a park. Ormewood and Franklin took positions on rooftops with sniper rifles. Faith stayed on the ground in plain clothes. Adelaide arrived wearing a trench coat.

She showed Will a live video feed of Antonio. His uncle was chained to a wall, dehydrated and starving. A train horn sounded in the background. Adelaide crushed her phone after Will saw the proof of life. She gave him two choices. He could kill himself, and she would reveal Antonio’s location. Or she would die by sucde and take the secret with her.

Will tried to reason with her. He mentioned her mother and the abuse she suffered. He said they were the same, but someone saved him. The distraction worked. Will grabbed her gun. Adelaide ran. Faith cut her off and forced her to her knees.

Adelaide reached for her boot. Will saw a hidden gun in her ankle holster. He fired two shots into her back. The bullets killed her instantly. She never revealed Antonio’s location.

Will Rescues Uncle Antonio From the Train Station

Adelaide’s video held one clue. Will remembered the train horn sound. He and Angie narrowed down possible locations to abandoned train stations around Atlanta. They found Antonio at one of them.

Antonio was weak but alive. At the hospital, he reassured Will that he held no blame.

“I have breath in my lungs because of you. You, mijo. Don’t you ever forget that.” – Antonio

The Team Honors Amanda Wagner at Her Memorial

A celebration of Amanda’s life took place at a bar called Kay’s Slaughterhouse. Captain Heller spoke first. He remembered Amanda as a “badass” from their early days at GBI. The whole crowd repeated the word.

Faith delivered a tribute to the woman who raised her.

“Amanda had more faith in me than I did. She would always tell me to do better, to be better. She saw potential. She had this really great gift of meeting you where you were, seeing who you could be, and pushing you down that path no matter how stubborn you were.” – Faith Mitchell

Faith claimed Amanda’s collection of coats and toasted to “the best to ever do it.” Jeremy (Deion Smith), Faith’s son, flew in for the memorial.

Will did not attend the celebration. He sat alone in Amanda’s office, staring at her photo. He picked up his tape recorder to speak. No words came out. He turned it off and sat in silence.

Sonja Sohn addressed Amanda’s departure on social media. She thanked fans for their support. “I am so sorry that you’re not going to be able to finish the journey with Amanda,” she said. “It is only the end of a character, but it is the beginning of a beautiful relationship.”

The episode closed with the GBI still processing their loss. Two episodes remain in Season 4.
