The Cast Bringing the Story to Life

Jed Chung and Meng-Hsuan Chu play the main couple called the โ€œHao-Yongโ€ pair. This marks their first project together in five years. During a Taipei premiere event on March 26, Chung shared that he drank plum wine before filming some intimate scenes because he felt awkward getting too close to someone he knew well. Chu explained that they worked hard to understand each otherโ€™s bodies and movements during a nearly one-minute-long โ€œumbrella kissโ€ scene.

The second couple, called the โ€œHai-Zheโ€ pair, features JN Yu as Li Wan-zhe and Kouta Kagami as Hamaguchi Soumi, a sailor. Kagami went through professional tanning and lost 7 kilograms to get the right look for his rugged islander character. During filming, both actors agreed with the director that visible tongue during kissing scenes was acceptable. Their intense performances left their lips red and swollen after shooting.

Chen Yen-Shu, who came from the talent show โ€œAtom Boy 2,โ€ and newcomer Guo Da-Rui play younger versions of the main characters in high school flashbacks. Fans have praised their fresh, clean-cut school uniform looks.

What Makes This Drama Different

Unlike many BL series that focus only on romance, Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars adds a fantasy twist. The island where the story takes place has a legend โ€“ throwing a stone into the sea while making a wish can make it come true. The main character screams at the stars that he wants to stop being himself, and strange things start happening.

The drama combines healing elements with dramatic moments. The director Ray Jiang (also known as Jiang Rui-zhi) wanted to explore themes of identity, self-acceptance and second chances. The oceanic setting gives the show a calm, peaceful feeling that contrasts with the emotional struggles of the characters.
