Witch Hat Atelier dropped its 11th episode on June 8, 2026, and fans finally got a deep look inside Richeh’s closed-off world. The episode, titled “The Test in Serpentback Cave,” spends real time explaining why the blue-haired apprentice refuses to learn from others. With the second Pentagram Test now underway, Richeh must face her deepest fear: growing up and losing herself.
The episode is now streaming on Crunchyroll for viewers in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and India. The English dub is available on the same day as the Japanese version.
Richeh’s Secret Hideout Reveals Her True Feelings
The episode begins with Coco practicing her magic under Qifrey‘s watch. He notices that Coco has a natural talent for drawing straight lines, thanks to her past as a tailor’s daughter. While Coco feels encouraged, Richeh sits in the corner, clearly upset.
When Qifrey gently suggests that Richeh could learn something by watching others, she snaps. She storms off, throwing up a crystal spell in anger. Coco follows her and discovers a hidden underground room beneath a large pot. The space is beautiful, decorated with malleable crystals that Richeh created herself. It is her private hiding place, a place where no adult can tell her what to do.
Coco admits she loves Richeh’s crystals. That small moment of kindness makes Richeh lower her guard. She even gives Coco one of the crystals as a gift.
Coco then asks the big question: Why does Richeh hate learning new spells?
“I only want to think about my own spells,” Richeh tells Coco. She explains that learning from others would only “contaminate” her own magic. Deep down, she is terrified that teachers and other witches will make her stop being herself.
A Painful Flashback Shows Where the Fear Comes From
The episode then shows a short but powerful flashback. Richeh is with her older brother, Riliphin. He loves her unique spells and tells her to keep being herself. He says she should never change.
But then Riliphin leaves. He becomes a witch’s apprentice somewhere else. Richeh feels abandoned. In her mind, growing up means becoming like the adults she hates—people who forget what it was like to be a child.
That fear stays with her. She refuses to learn anything new because she thinks it will erase the person her brother once loved. Richeh is not stubborn for no reason. She is holding on to the only thing she has left: her childhood self.
Qifrey Signs Richeh Up for the Test Without Asking
While Richeh hides in her secret room, Qifrey receives news about the second test’s date. Agott is set to take it. But then Qifrey drops a surprise. He has already submitted Richeh’s application without telling her.
When Richeh finds out, she is furious. She trusted Qifrey, and now he has gone behind her back. But Qifrey stands his ground. He tells her that she will definitely learn something new at Serpentback Cave. He asks her to believe in him just this once.
Richeh agrees, but she warns him: “I’ll never forgive you if taking the test makes me stray away from who I am.”
This moment shows how much Richeh values her independence. For her, agreeing to the test is a huge risk. She is afraid that passing it will turn her into someone her brother would not recognize.
The Second Test Begins at Serpentback Cave
The group arrives at Serpentback Cave, a magical ruin left over from before the Day of the Pact. The test is called the “Sincerity of the Shield.” Each apprentice must protect a myrphon, a penguin-like creature, during its first migration through the dangerous cave.
The proctor, Alaira, disguises herself as a giant brushbuddy to explain the rules. The cave is a labyrinth full of old forbidden magic. The apprentices must use their skills to keep their myrphon safe from start to finish.
Agott, Richeh, and another apprentice named Euini each receive one myrphon. Euini is taking the test for the third time. His teacher, Kukrow, openly shames him in front of everyone. Euini looks broken, constantly hiding his face behind his bangs. He apologizes for things that are not his fault.
Euini’s Teacher Shows the Wrong Way to Raise Apprentices
Kukrow is the complete opposite of Qifrey. He does not believe in Euini at all. He criticizes his apprentice publicly and does not even stay to watch the test. Fans already dislike Kukrow for his cruel behavior.
Euini’s sadness stands as a warning. Without a supportive teacher, even a talented student can fail. Richeh sees this. She realizes that Qifrey, despite his pushy decision, actually cares about her growth.
The episode ends with the three apprentices entering the cave. The path spirals up and down, showing how complex the test will be. Alaira tells them that this exam is about using magic to protect against magic.

What Episode 11 Means for Richeh’s Character
Episode 11 does not fix Richeh’s problems. It only explains where they come from. She still fears losing herself. She still does not trust adults. But by accepting the test, she has taken the first step forward.
Qifrey’s decision to sign her up was risky. It could have broken her trust completely. But he did it because he believes she is ready. Now Richeh must face her fears inside Serpentback Cave.
The season has two episodes left. Episode 12 arrives on June 15, 2026, and the finale drops on June 22, 2026. Fans are eager to see if Richeh will pass the test—and if she will finally learn that growing up does not mean losing yourself.
