The latest episode of Witch Hat Atelier took a sharp turn from a fun shopping day to a dangerous fight for survival. What started as a simple trip to buy Coco a new wand quickly became a nightmare when the young apprentice chased after a mysterious figure from her past. Witch Hat Atelier Episode 4, which aired on April 20, 2026, shows the four young witches trapped in a strange white labyrinth with a giant dragon hunting them.
The episode opens with Qifrey taking Coco, Agott, Tetia, and Richeh to the witch city of Kalhn. Coco needs a new writing instrument because the old pen she has been using does not fit her hand well. The group visits a magic stationery store called the Starry Sword, run by an old craftsman named Nolnoa and his grandson Tartah. The store has a living Silverwood tree growing inside it. This tree produces the special ink that witches use for magic. The branches become wands, and the sap turns into conjuring ink. The whole experience feels like a dream to Coco, who grew up outside the magical world.
Coco’s Reckless Chase Leads Everyone Into a Trap
The peaceful shopping trip ends when Coco spots a masked person inside the store. This is the same person who gave her the forbidden picture book years ago. That book caused Coco to accidentally turn her mother into stone. Without thinking, Coco runs after the masked figure. Tetia and Richeh follow her, and Agott gets pulled along too. The chase leads them into a thick mist, and suddenly the surroundings change. The group finds themselves in an unfamiliar white stone labyrinth. They have been teleported away from Kalhn without knowing it.
Tetia flies up to see where they are and comes back down scared. She says, “It’s less what I saw and more what saw me.” A giant four-winged dragon appears from the labyrinth, and the young witches realize they are in serious danger. The whole situation was a trap set by the Brimmed Caps, a group of rogue witches who operate outside the law. The chase was not an accident. Someone wanted Coco to run after them.
The Apprentices Struggle to Survive the Labyrinth
Agott takes charge right away. She shows her ability to stay calm under pressure. Instead of drawing magic circles on the spot, she uses pre-drawn spells from her notebook. She combines fire and wind magic to create a strong attack that keeps the dragon away for a while. This gives the group time to run and find a hiding place. The magic system in Witch Hat Atelier feels different from other shows because it requires actual drawing skills and preparation. Witches cannot just wave their hands and cast spells. They need ink, paper, and a steady hand.
The group reaches a dead end, and Tetia breaks down. She cries about being scared to die before she has done anything important. She gives up her robes to create a distraction spell. Richeh, who usually stays quiet, steps up when it matters most. She quickly draws a spell that turns a stone wall into sand, creating an escape passage for everyone. She does not complain or panic. She just focuses and gets the job done.
Agott’s Harsh Words Break Coco Down
Things get worse when Coco tries to help. She sees a large magic circle on one of the labyrinth towers and wants to tell Agott about it. But she reaches out at the wrong time and breaks Agott’s focus. The spell fails, and Agott loses her temper. She blames Coco for everything. She brings up Coco’s mother and calls her a dead end. The words are cruel and land hard.
Agott is only eleven years old, and the pressure of trying to save everyone from a dragon is too much for her. But what she says crosses a line. Tetia does not say anything mean out loud, but the look she gives Coco hurts even more. Tetia has been Coco’s biggest supporter since the beginning. She welcomed Coco first and always made sure she was not left behind. Seeing Tetia look at her with blame in her eyes breaks Coco completely.
By the end of the episode, Coco stands alone holding Tetia’s hat while the others continue through the hole in the wall. She does not know what to do next. The group she wanted so badly to be part of now feels far away.
Qifrey Realizes What Happened
Back in Kalhn, Qifrey figures out that the Brimmed Caps took the girls. He understands that Coco was the target all along. Brushbuddy, the small creature Coco saved earlier in the series, leads him toward the direction where the girls disappeared. This small act of kindness from Coco might now save her life.
The episode ends with the masked person standing over the trapped apprentices and saying, “You are our hope.” This changes everything. The Brimmed Caps did not trick Coco into the maze to hurt her. They want something from her. Coco is not just a side character in someone else’s story. She is at the center of something much bigger.
