A pre-release event for Yash’s upcoming film ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ took a dangerous turn on Saturday evening when a heavy speaker stand collapsed at the venue in Hyderabad, leaving several fans injured. The actor, who was on stage addressing a massive crowd, immediately stopped his speech and rushed to check on the safety of those affected.
The incident occurred at Malla Reddy University in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, where thousands of fans had gathered to catch a glimpse of the Kannada superstar ahead of the film’s theatrical release. According to Cyberabad Police, the chaos began when a group of young attendees climbed onto a flying DJ speaker stand to get a better view of the stage. The structure lost its balance under the weight and suddenly collapsed, sending people falling from a height.
What Exactly Happened at the Toxic Event
The pre-release event was held on August 22 at the Malla Reddy Group of Institutions campus in Dulapally, Hyderabad. A large number of students and fans had gathered to see Yash and other cast members, including Kiara Advani, Rukmini Vasanth, and Huma Qureshi.
Police reports confirm that some fans climbed onto the sound system structure to get a better view. A group was also reportedly performing stunts on the stand when it became unstable and gave way. The collapse resulted in multiple injuries, with four people, including a student, being taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A senior police official told PTI that one student suffered a leg fracture, while three others sustained minor injuries. One young woman reportedly lost consciousness at the scene. Police personnel at the venue rushed the injured to the hospital immediately.
Yash Stops Speech to Check on Injured Fans
While Yash was speaking on stage, he noticed the commotion caused by the collapsing structure. The actor paused his speech midway and immediately asked the organisers to check on the injured.
“Are they okay? Please check.”
Yash called out from the stage, directing event organisers and security personnel to attend to those who had fallen. After the initial response, the actor noticed other students climbing onto structures around the venue to get a better view. He stopped again and requested them to come down, warning them it was not safe.
Before resuming his speech, Yash checked with the crowd once more.
“Is everyone okay? Is everyone safe?”
He waited for confirmation from the audience before continuing with the event. The actor resumed his address only after the commotion had died down and he was assured that everyone was safe.
Police Register Case Against University and Event Manager
Following the incident, Cyberabad Police registered a case against the management of Malla Reddy University and the event manager. The case was filed on grounds of negligence in connection with the speaker stand collapse.
According to police, four people were injured in the mishap, and the authorities have launched an investigation into the safety arrangements at the event. The police did not specify the details of the case but confirmed that legal action has been taken against the organisers.
K Vijaya Vardhan, Inspector of Police at Pet Basheerabad police station, confirmed, “Four people were injured. One sustained a leg fracture but is stable, while the others suffered minor injuries. There was no stampede after the incident”.
