What The Scarecrow Is About

The story of The Scarecrow moves between 1988 and 2019. Park Hae-soo plays Kang Tae-joo, a criminal profiler who was demoted to a small rural town called Gangseong. There, he gets caught up in a series of brutal murders known as the “Scarecrow” killings. The name comes from a real police method where officers placed scarecrows with warning signs during investigations.

After more than 30 years, a jailed serial killer makes a surprising claim. He tells the police that Kang Tae-joo can prove his innocence. This forces the retired profiler to return to the case and face his past. Lee Hee-joon plays Cha Si-young, a prosecutor who has a difficult history with Tae-joo. Kwak Sun-young also stars in a key role.

The drama takes ideas from the real-life Hwaseong serial murders, one of the most famous and long-running criminal cases in South Korean history.
