The trailer for Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga dropped on May 19, 2026, and it brings a deep story of love and separation from the 1947 Partition. The three-minute-nine-second video shows Naseeruddin Shah as an old man on his deathbed, still waiting to see the woman he loved 78 years ago.

Sharvari plays the younger version of that lost love, while Vedang Raina acts as the younger Naseeruddin Shah. Diljit Dosanjh appears as the grandson who tries to piece together his grandfather’s unfinished story and fulfill his dying wish.

A Love Story Across Two Time Periods

The movie moves between 1947 and present day. During Partition, Vedang Raina’s character had to flee to India, leaving Sharvari’s character behind. He promised to return, but that promise stayed unfulfilled for a lifetime.

Now, 78 years later, Naseeruddin Shah’s character lies sick and shares his memories with his grandson, played by Diljit Dosanjh. The grandson then tries to complete what his grandfather could not.

“Main Vaapas Aaunga is a personal story of love and longing which remained in someone’s heart for 78 years after the partition of the country. It is also an echo of hundreds of stories that I heard from the veteran generation that has seen partition with their own eyes.” – Imtiaz Ali, Director

The Dream Team Returns for Main Vaapas Aaunga

The film brings back the famous trio of Imtiaz Ali, A.R. Rahman, and Irshad Kamil. They previously worked together on hit movies like Rockstar, Tamasha, and Amar Singh Chamkila. Fans are already excited about the music.

This is also Imtiaz Ali and Diljit Dosanjh’s second project after the 2024 critically praised film Amar Singh Chamkila.
