American Horror Story: 13 delivered its biggest twist yet in Episodes 7 and 8, with Jessica Lange’s Fiona Goode returning from Hell to resurrect her daughter and rally the Coven against the Devil himself. The double feature, titled “The Baddest Witch of Them All” and “Hell No,” aired on FX and Hulu on October 8, 2026, and marked the long-awaited return of the former Supreme witch first introduced in Coven back in 2013.
The episodes picked up right after Cordelia Goode (Sarah Paulson) was killed by James Patrick March (Evan Peters) and his band of resurrected serial killers, known as the Cortez Devils. With the Coven’s Supreme gone, the witches had to fight back alone — until help arrived from the one person nobody expected.
Madison and Queenie Take Down the Serial Killers
Episode 7, “The Baddest Witch of Them All,” opened with the Coven reeling from Cordelia’s death. Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts) stepped up to lead the offensive, teaming with Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) to confront Jeffrey Dahmer (Seth Gabel). Madison was briefly stabbed during the fight but was healed by Morwenna (Alex Consani), one of the new witches with resurrection powers. Queenie then used her mirroring abilities to destroy Dahmer for good.
Mallory (Billie Lourd) used her time-travel powers to send Richard Ramirez back to his old neighborhood, where he met his end, while Coco (Leslie Grossman) and Queenie combined their abilities to kill the Zodiac Killer by spiking his glucose levels. The witches were holding their own — but the real shock came when the front door of Miss Robichaux’s Academy opened.
Fiona Goode Returns and Revives Cordelia
Jessica Lange’s Fiona Goode walked through the doors of Miss Robichaux’s Academy for the first time since Coven ended in 2014. She found her daughter dead and wasted no time. After a tense confrontation with James Patrick March, who tried to recruit her for Satan’s cause, Fiona revealed that it was Cordelia’s spell that had summoned her back from Hell — not the Devil.
“You summoned me and I came,” Fiona told her daughter after bringing her back to life.
Fiona made quick work of March and his killer conspirators, turning them against each other before finishing them off with her powers. The mother-daughter reunion was brief but powerful, with Fiona telling the witches it was time to work together to save the world.
The Coven Discovers Satan Is Behind the Attacks
Episode 8, “Hell No,” began with Cordelia awake and the Coven desperate to understand who revived the serial killers. Fiona offered a grim piece of advice:
“Find out what they’re made of and you will find their maker”.
The witches cut open one of the killers and discovered a serpent inside his body — a clear sign that Mr. Nas (Paul Anthony Kelly) , the mysterious figure who had been collecting souls all season, was actually the Devil himself. With Satan as their enemy, the Coven needed help from someone who knew him well.

A Deal with Papa Legba Brings Marie Laveau Back
Fiona suggested they ask Papa Legba (Orlando Jones) , Hell’s gatekeeper, for assistance. Papa Legba was furious that Fiona had escaped Hell, but Cordelia made him an offer — she would destroy the resurrection spell she used on her mother if he helped the Coven defeat Satan.
Papa Legba agreed but said he could not help without Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett) . For Marie to return from Hell, another witch had to take her place. Fiona volunteered first since she had escaped, but Cordelia insisted the Coven needed Fiona to deal with Marie. In the end, Queenie volunteered to trade places with Marie, descending into Hell where she encountered Delphine LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) and was forced to eat a piece of her own burnt flesh.
Marie Laveau returned to the living world, and the Coven now had the Voodoo Queen on their side. The two former enemies — Fiona and Marie — agreed to join forces against the Devil, setting the stage for an unlikely alliance.
Angela Bassett on Marie Laveau’s Return
Angela Bassett spoke about returning as Marie Laveau for the third time in the franchise. The character first appeared in Coven in 2013 and returned for Apocalypse in 2018. Bassett’s return was one of the season’s most talked-about moments, with fans celebrating the Voodoo Queen’s comeback on social media.
Emma Roberts also shared her thoughts on the Coven reunion, saying the season felt like a genuine gathering of old friends.
“I was happy to bring back Madison. I love playing this character,” Roberts said. “It felt more like a reunion.”
