The streaming platform Netflix is adding a new South Korean action thriller to its June 2026 lineup. The show is called Agent Kim Reactivated and it stars So Ji Sub as a former black ops agent whose daughter gets kidnapped. The series is based on the popular webtoon Manager Kim and has already drawn comparisons to the 2008 Liam Neeson movie Taken. The show will first air on SBS TV in South Korea on June 26, 2026, and then arrive on Netflix for global audiences on June 27, 2026.
So Ji Sub Returns to Action After Mercy For None Success
So Ji Sub played a similar role in the 2025 Netflix series Mercy For None. In that show, he played a man who returns to the criminal underworld to revenge his brother’s death. He used a baseball bat as his main weapon and fought through many gangsters to find the truth. Critics praised his physical performance and called him a “methodical killing machine”. The new show Agent Kim Reactivated puts him in a similar position but this time the motivation is saving his daughter instead of avenging a brother.
The production team for Agent Kim Reactivated directly told Korean media that the show is the “Korean version of Taken“. They promised a mix of exciting action and an emotional story about a father’s love. The show marks So Ji Sub’s first drama on SBS in 13 years.
What Agent Kim Reactivated Is About
Agent Kim Reactivated tells the story of Kim Do Hyeon (So Ji Sub). On the outside, he is a regular office worker at a small savings bank. He is a single father raising his daughter Min Ji. But his past is very different. He used to be a black ops agent who carried out dangerous missions. His record includes 17 infiltration missions in North Korea, five double agent missions in South Korea, two jailbreaks, and even one assassination attempt on a North Korean leader. His name is on North Korea’s blacklist, and he must hide his identity at all costs.
His quiet life breaks apart when his daughter disappears. The kidnapping forces him to wake up his old skills. He stops pretending to be a normal salaryman and becomes the dangerous agent he once was. He will do anything to find her, even if that means destroying everyone in his path.
The show will run for 10 episodes. Unlike many Netflix shows that release all episodes at once, Agent Kim Reactivated will follow a weekly schedule. New episodes will drop every Friday and Saturday after the premiere.
The Supporting Cast and Characters
So Ji Sub is not alone in this fight. He gets help from two former allies. Choi Dae Hoon plays Seong Han Su, a former agent who now runs a taekwondo center for children. His character is a gold medalist who can kick 1440 degrees and bend coins with his grip. Yoon Kyung Ho plays Park Jin Cheol, a battlefield expert who fought in wars in West Asia and the Middle East. He is a rock music lover who refused promotions just to keep his long hair. Now he runs a special operations team.
The main villain is Joo Kang Chan, played by Joo Sang Wook. He is the chairman of Juhak Construction and a very brutal man. Son Na Eun also stars in the show as Sang A.
How Agent Kim Reactivated Connects to Other Webtoons
Agent Kim Reactivated is based on the webtoon Manager Kim by Pak Tae Jun. The webtoon has 220 chapters and has been running since 2023. It exists in the same fictional universe as other popular webtoons like Lookism, Viral Hit, and Questism. But the story of Manager Kim works on its own without needing to know those other series. The webtoon is known for very violent action scenes where the main character shows extreme anger with bulging veins on his hands and forehead.

Agent Kim Reactivated premieres on SBS TV in South Korea on June 26, 2026 at 9:50 PM KST. For global audiences, the show will be available on Netflix starting June 27, 2026. Viewers in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and India can watch it on Netflix on that date. The show will release two new episodes every weekend. The first episode will run for approximately 60 minutes.
