The new live-action show Spider-Noir arrived on Prime Video on May 27, 2026, and it has changed everything fans know about Spider-Man. The series stars Nicolas Cage as a 1930s private detective who goes by the name Ben Reilly. He is not Peter Parker. He is not even called Spider-Man. The show calls him The Spider.

The eight-episode season dropped all at once on Prime Video. It also aired on the MGM+ cable channel on May 25, 2026 for US viewers. The show has received strong reviews, holding a 91% critics score and a 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ben Reilly Takes Off the Mask as a Different Kind of Spider

Nicolas Cage plays Ben Reilly, a worn-out private investigator in New York City during the Great Depression. He used to be a masked hero called The Spider, but he gave it up five years before the show starts. The reason is personal. His love interest Ruby (Amanda Schull) was killed by an angry client, and Reilly never got over it.

The show explains how Reilly got his powers. During World War I in France, German scientists experimented on soldiers. Reilly got bitten by a dying test subject that was half man and half spider. This gave him his strength, speed, and ability to climb walls.

Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot developed the series. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal served as executive producers. The team worked with Sony Pictures Television and Amazon’s MGM Studios to produce the show.

The Cast Brings Classic Spider-Man Characters to the 1930s

The show changes many familiar names from the Spider-Man comics. Lamorne Morris plays Robbie Robertson, a hard-nosed journalist and Reilly’s best friend. In the comics, Robbie is the editor of the Daily Bugle. Here, he is a reporter trying to make it in a tough city.

Li Jun Li plays Cat Hardy, a nightclub singer with secrets. Her name is a play on Felicia Hardy, also known as Black Cat. Cat is a femme fatale who gets caught up in Reilly’s world.

Brendan Gleeson plays Silvermane, an Irish mob boss who is the main villain of the series. Jack Huston plays Flint Marko, better known as Sandman. Abraham Popoola plays Lonnie Lincoln, also called Tombstone.

Karen Rodriguez plays Janet, Reilly’s secretary. She is an original character created for the show. The showrunners based her on similar characters from old film noir movies like The Maltese Falcon.

The Finale Shows Ben Reilly Choosing His True Identity

The last episode, titled “The Man in the Mask,” brings all the stories together. Silvermane wants to control the mayoral election. He uses his superpowered men, Sandman, Tombstone, and Megawatt (Andrew Lewis Caldwell), to scare people.

Dr. Faber (Amy Aquino) drugs Reilly and takes his blood. She wants to make an antidote for other WWI veterans who were experimented on. Reilly escapes with some of the vials. He and Robbie figure out how to reverse the powers of the bad guys.

Silvermane figures out that Reilly is The Spider. Robbie saves him by dressing up as The Spider for a short time. A big fight breaks out. Cat, who actually loves Flint, shoots Silvermane to free herself. The Spider fights Sandman and Megawatt and gives the last antidote vial to Cat for Flint.

The ending shows Mayor Norris winning the election. Cat and Flint get back together. Janet becomes a partner at Reilly’s detective agency. Robbie starts his own newspaper called the Harlem Herald. Reilly and Janet wait for their next case together.

Fans Can Watch the Show in Black and White or Color

Spider-Noir gives viewers a choice. The show is available in two visual formats. The first is called “Authentic Black & White.” It matches the look of old 1930s detective movies. The second is “True-Hue Full Color.” Both versions tell the same story. The choice only changes how the show looks.

The series is streaming now on Prime Video in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other countries. A Prime Video membership costs $14.99 per month in the US or $139 per year with an Amazon Prime membership. A standalone Prime Video subscription costs $8.99 per month.
