The Apple TV+ crime thriller Criminal Record dropped its penultimate episode of season 2 on June 3, 2026, and the tension has never been higher. Episode 7, titled “Going Down,” puts undercover asset Billy Fielding in the most dangerous position of his life while June Lenker watches her personal life crumble around her. Cosmo Thompson, the far-right leader planning a terrorist attack on London, finally pieces everything together. The result is an episode that leaves the police team blindsided and the city standing on the edge of disaster.

Billy Fielding Takes a Deadly Risk Inside The Depot

The episode picks up right after the events of episode 6. Billy Fielding (played by Luther Ford) is trapped inside The Depot, a boxing club that serves as Cosmo’s headquarters. He has been working as a police informant ever since DCI Daniel Hegarty ( Peter Capaldi ) orchestrated his release from prison. But now Hegarty is suspended, and Billy’s direct contact JP is also off the case. When June Lenker ( Cush Jumbo ) answers the burner phone instead of JP, Billy immediately panics.

From Billy’s view, the sudden change in police personnel looks like a betrayal. Hegarty had promised him freedom if he helped bring down Cosmo. Now both Hegarty and JP are gone. Billy switches off the phone and for a while, it seems like he might fully turn to Cosmo’s side out of pure survival instinct.

But Billy is not like Cosmo. That difference becomes clear when he comes across Cosmo’s hate-filled video content about Cerys Jones , the teenage girl Billy killed. Hearing Cosmo make racist attacks against Cerys and her family disgusts Billy. He may have committed a terrible crime, but he does not share Cosmo’s hateful ideology. That moment pulls him back. He turns the phone back on and holds up a building plan for the police cameras, confirming he is still loyal to the operation.

Cosmo Sees Through Billy’s Final Move

Billy needs more information. The building plan he showed the police turns out to be a blueprint of The Depot itself, not the actual target of the attack. Cosmo still has not revealed where the bombs will go off. With time running out, Billy decides to make a very risky move.

He has noticed that Cosmo is romantically interested in him. Cosmo has tried to put his hand on Billy’s before, and he sent Billy gifts while he was in prison. So Billy pretends to give in. He puts his arm around Cosmo’s waist, trying to act like he is finally responding to Cosmo’s advances. The hope is that Cosmo will open up about the attack plans.

But Cosmo is too smart. He has already doubted Billy’s story about escaping from prison. He has seen how uncomfortable Billy gets whenever Cosmo’s interest turns personal. So when Billy suddenly acts romantic, Cosmo knows immediately what is happening. He realizes that Billy is an informant.

Hegarty Forces His Way Back Into the Investigation

Even though Daniel Hegarty was suspended in the previous episode, he never really leaves. Peter Capaldi plays Hegarty as a man who knows exactly which doors to push. He has set up his own surveillance feed to watch Billy and Cosmo inside The Depot. He also keeps Kim Cardwell close inside June’s unit.

When Hegarty decides he needs to return, he contacts his superiors. Soon, those superiors claim that the Counter Terror department knew about and supported the Billy operation all along. Hegarty walks back into the command room. June does not trust him, but she has no choice but to work with him.

Hegarty says he never expected the Suffolk Square operation to end in death. But the episode makes it clear that broken systems are not kept alive by fools. They are maintained by clever people who keep calling their worst choices necessary.

Cosmo Turns His Arrest Into a Trap

The final sequence of episode 7 is where everything flips. Cosmo takes Billy to an apartment tower, fully aware that the police are following. He knows he is about to be arrested. And that is exactly what he wants.

Cosmo lets the police take him into custody. But before they do, he goes live on a stream and tells his supporters to gather outside the police station. While the police celebrate catching him, his second-in-command Nigel leads the rest of the gang out of The Depot.

The building plan that Billy showed the police was old. It showed a shaft and an underground tunnel from before the building was renovated. Cosmo had not been pointing to the target. He had been pointing to the escape route. By the time June and her team understand this, Nigel and the others are already gone.

Cosmo gives the police his body while keeping his plan alive. His arrest makes him a martyr for his followers. And the bombs are still out there, ready to go off.

June Lenker’s Personal Life Completely Falls Apart

While all of this is happening, June Lenker loses everything outside of work. JP wakes up in the hospital and learns that Internal Affairs is investigating him. His phone has been seized, and he believes June threw him under the bus because their affair ended.

When JP arrives at June’s house, the confrontation is brutal. He is furious and wounded. The timing could not be worse. June’s estranged partner Leo is at the house. They had been trying to repair their relationship through therapy. But JP’s arrival exposes the affair. Leo hears everything.

Leo leaves in anger. JP leaves in fury. And June is left alone in her house, with no one by her side.

Cush Jumbo delivers powerful work in this episode. June is not painted as a saint. She is capable and sharp at work, but she is also messy in ways she cannot fix like she fixes police cases.

What the Ending Means for the Finale

Cosmo’s arrest at the end of episode 7 is not a victory. It is a trap. He knew the police were coming. He livestreamed his arrest on purpose. Now his followers are angry, organized, and ready to act. Nigel and the other gang members escaped through the hidden tunnel. The bombs are still in play.

June and Hegarty now have very little time to find the real target and stop the attack. Episode 8, the season finale, will air on June 10, 2026 , on Apple TV+. New episodes typically drop at 12:00 AM ET / 9:00 PM PT .
