Robert Pattinson is tired of people saying he didn’t put in the work for The Batman. The actor, who returns as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming sequel The Batman: Part II, recently sat down with GQ magazine and fired back at critics who mocked his physique in the 2022 film. He revealed that he trained twice a day, sometimes starting at three in the morning, and still got accused of skipping the gym.

The 40-year-old actor also opened up about building a home gym for the sequel and described working with Christopher Nolan on The Odyssey as one of the most exhausting experiences of his career.

Pattinson Says He Worked Out at 3 AM for Batman Role

Robert Pattinson did not hold back when discussing the backlash. He told GQ that people assumed he did not take the role seriously because of some old interviews where he joked about exercise being uncool.

“Everyone was like, ‘You didn’t work out at all.’ I worked out every f***ing day. Even after that, I still look like I didn’t work out. I worked out twice a day at, like, three o’clock in the morning.” – *Robert Pattinson*

The actor blamed the misunderstanding on his own words. Years ago, he told an interviewer that he ignored the studio-hired trainer because he thought working out all the time was “part of the problem.” He admitted he was just trying to sound cool. Now, he wants to set the record straight.

Home Gym and 11 Weeks of Night Shoots for ‘The Batman Part II’

For The Batman: Part II, Pattinson is taking no chances. He installed a home gym at the Beverly Hills house he shares with partner Suki Waterhouse and their two-year-old daughter. He is determined to pack on more muscle for the sequel.

But the road ahead is tough. The actor recently got a call from the stunt team that caught him off guard. They told him to prepare for 11 weeks of night shoots. Pattinson said he had not even received the official schedule yet. His response was simply, “Excuse me?”

‘The Odyssey’ Shoot Left Cast ‘Broken’, Says Pattinson

Before putting the cape back on, Pattinson finished working with Christopher Nolan on The Odyssey. The film, which hits theaters on July 17, 2026, was a brutal shoot. Pattinson plays the villain Antinous, who tries to steal Odysseus’ throne and marry his wife Penelope (played by Anne Hathaway).

Pattinson admitted he was the only actor who asked to read the script before saying yes. After his experience on Tenet, where he said he had no idea what was happening half the time, he wanted to be sure.

When he arrived on set for The Odyssey, he was shocked by what he saw.

“I’ve never seen people look so exhausted. And this was only a third of the way. People just looked like… at the end of every day people were broken.” – Robert Pattinson

Matt Damon, who also stars in the film, agreed. He said there was not “a single easy location.” The crew filmed in Iceland, Sicily, and other remote places. Actors had to climb 900 feet up in the air on the island of Favignana. Those who could not make the climb took a helicopter.

Pattinson also shared a funny detail about his costume. He wanted to wear leopard-print underwear for his character. He kept asking the costume department to let the fur “sparkle” under his rock skirt. It is unclear if the request made it into the final cut.

Pattinson Jokes About ‘Twilight’ Shirtless Scene

During the GQ interview, Pattinson also looked back at his Twilight days with humor. He joked that even back then, the directors did not want him showing off his body.

“The one time they told me to take my shirt off, I think they told me to put it back on again,” he said.

Despite the jokes, Pattinson is serious about proving his critics wrong. He hopes that by the time The Batman: Part II arrives in 2027, people will finally stop asking if he worked out.
