The DC Universe is getting a new addition. Aaron Paul, the actor famous for his role in Breaking Bad, has reportedly joined the cast of the upcoming movie Clayface. The news comes from a recent leak about the film.
The report says Paul has a brief and minor role in the movie. Neither the actor nor DC Studios has confirmed this news yet. But several fan sites have picked up the story and started guessing about his character.
The Leak About Paul’s Character
According to a report from Feature First, Aaron Paul will appear in a small role. The exact details are still unknown. The report suggests fans should not expect a major presence from him in the film.
Internet scooper MyTimeToShineHello shared more details. The leak claims Paul is playing Matt Hagen’s father in a short cameo. Reports from test screenings describe this as a “meaningless” cameo with no major impact on the story.
The movie does not include any post-credits scenes. It feels very standalone and is funnier than expected, according to test screening reactions. The film is very R-rated, gory, and even has some nudity.
Fan Theories About the Casting
The casting news has reignited a long-standing fan theory. Many DC fans have wanted Aaron Paul to play Deadman for years. Deadman, also known as Boston Brand, is a ghost superhero. He was a trapeze artist who got murdered and came back as a ghost to find justice.
Deadman is a character from the supernatural side of DC Comics. He works with teams like Justice League Dark alongside Constantine and Zatanna.
There is one problem with this theory. Deadman and Clayface do not have any connection in the comics. Clayface is a Batman villain. His stories focus on identity and body horror. Deadman operates in the magical corner of the DC Universe.
What We Know About Clayface
Clayface is a DC Studios movie directed by James Watkins. The film stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, the man who becomes Clayface. The movie is a body horror film about a Hollywood actor whose life falls apart.
The official synopsis describes the story: “Clayface tells the terrifying descent into hell of a promising Hollywood actor who has become a monster driven by revenge. An intense story that explores the loss of identity and humanity, the ravages of corrosive love, and the dark side of scientific ambition.”
The screenplay comes from horror master Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. Flanagan planned to direct but was too busy with other projects. Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan also star in the movie.
The DCU Connection
James Gunn has confirmed that Clayface is part of the DCU. It belongs to the first chapter called Gods and Monsters. The movie is not connected to Matt Reeves’ Batman movies.
Gunn described it as “pure f***ing horror.” He said it is a gross psychological horror film. DC co-CEO Peter Safran also confirmed it is separate from Reeves’ Batman trilogy.
Batman is never shown or even referenced in the movie. There are no other DCU cameos either. The film takes place in the DCU Gotham, which first appeared in Creature Commandos.
