Prime Video has dropped the first full trailer for Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2, and it is packed with surprises. The two-minute footage gives fans a look at the Dark Knight’s next battle, which includes some of DC’s most famous villains and several obscure characters from the comics. The show, which serves as a spiritual follow-up to the classic Batman: The Animated Series, returns on July 31, 2026, with all ten episodes.
The Riddler and Joker Take Center Stage in Season 2
The trailer makes it clear that Edward Nygma, also known as the Riddler, is the main threat in the new season. This version of the character is not wearing a green suit covered in question marks. Instead, he appears as a gangster with a gun, fitting the show’s 1940s noir style. Reports suggest actor Dave Franco is voicing the character.
The Riddler is not working alone. He is joined by Poison Ivy, who has been redesigned as a classic femme fatale. The trailer also shows a romance between the two villains as they terrorize Gotham City. The biggest reveal comes at the very end of the trailer, where the Joker makes his full debut. He was only teased at the end of Season 1, but now he speaks directly to Batman, saying, “I’ve come to show you what you are.”
Deep-Cut Villains Get Their Time to Shine
One of the most interesting parts of the trailer is the focus on minor Batman villains. The showrunners are using characters who rarely get attention in movies or comics. Roxy Rocket is one of the biggest examples. She was created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini for The New Batman Adventures in the 1990s. In the new season, she is redesigned with yellow armor, making her look like an “Iron Man homage.”
The trailer also gives quick looks at other deep-cut villains:
- Mad Hatter: This character has been reimagined as an older woman who hosts a talk show to criticize Batman.
- Man-Bat: The half-man, half-bat creature makes an appearance, and he looks very close to his comic book design.
- Firefly: This villain uses a jetpack and is known for starting fires across Gotham.
- Scarecrow: First-look images confirmed the master of fear will also appear in Season 2.

What to Expect From Batman’s Return
Batman: Caped Crusader is a noir-inspired animated series created by Bruce Timm, who co-created the iconic 1990s show. The series is set in Batman’s early years, focusing on his detective skills rather than his gadgets. Hamish Linklater voices Batman, and the cast also includes Jason Watkins as Alfred Pennyworth and Krystal Joy Brown as Barbara Gordon.
The first season received a 94% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 2 is expected to follow the same format, mixing episodic villain-of-the-week stories with a larger mystery about the Riddler’s plan to take over Gotham. The show is produced by DC Studios, Warner Bros. Animation, and executive producers J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves. It is available to stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
