Olivia Rodrigo has done it again. The 23-year-old pop star’s third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, has officially landed at the top of the Billboard 200, marking her third consecutive number-one album. The record, which was released on June 12, 2026, moved a massive 485,000 equivalent album units in its first week, securing the title of the biggest debut week of her career and the largest for any solo artist so far in 2026.

This achievement is a significant milestone for the singer, as she continues to build on the massive success of her previous albums, Sour and Guts, both of which also debuted at the top of the charts. She unseats Drake’s Iceman from the top spot, pushing the album to No. 2 after a four-week reign.

Record-Breaking Numbers Across the Board

The album’s debut was a powerhouse performance across multiple metrics. Billboard reports that the 485,000 units were driven by a mix of sales and streams, including 273,000 in pure album salesโ€”the largest sales week for a woman in 2026. The album also amassed 218.41 million on-demand streams, the biggest streaming week of the year for a female artist, resulting in 211,000 SEA units.

A significant portion of the physical sales came from vinyl, with the album selling 164,000 copies on the format. This achievement marks Olivia’s biggest week ever for vinyl sales and the largest vinyl week of 2026 by a woman. The album’s success was supported by the release of over 15 physical variants, including signed editions. “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love” was the only album to debut in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 this week.

Chart Domination on the Hot 100

The success of the album has rippled across the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. All 13 tracks from the album landed in the Top 30, with 11 of them debuting this week. The album’s lead single, “Drop Dead,” which originally peaked at No. 1, is currently sitting at No. 4, while “The Cure” is holding steady at No. 6.

The highest new entry is the track “Stupid Song,” which debuts at No. 3. Other songs in the Top 20 include “Honeybee” (No. 9), “Maggots for Brains” (No. 12), “My Way” (No. 15), “Begged” (No. 16), “What’s Wrong With Me” (No. 17, featuring Robert Smith), and “u + me = <3” (No. 19).

A “Bittersweet” Album with a Plot Twist

The album, which Rodrigo described upon announcement as a concept record about the anxieties that accompany falling in love, has been noted for its unexpected and raw emotional arc. Critics have pointed out that the album feels like a narrative where a breakup occurs midway through, challenging the entire identity of the project.

Rodrigo’s quote upon announcing the album, “No matter how hard I try to write love songs they always come out laced with a little melancholy,” now feels especially fitting. The final tracks, including the closing song “Cigarette Smoke,” confirm that the album is not just a simple love record but a complex exploration of a relationship’s end. This has earned her praise for her “visceral simulation” of a real-life relationship’s collapse. “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love” is already a standout album for her career and a defining moment for pop music in 2026.
