Tom Holland and Zendaya‘s latest superhero film Spider-Man: Brand New Day has done something only seven other movies have ever done. The Sony and Marvel production crossed $2 billion at the global box office in just 17 days. That makes it the second-fastest film in history to reach that mark, behind only Avengers: Endgame which did it in 11 days back in 2019.
The film’s worldwide total now stands at $2.022 billion. It earned $785 million in North America and $1.23 billion from international markets. With this number, Brand New Day has officially become Sony Pictures’ highest-grossing release of all time, surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home which finished its run at $1.9 billion.
The Film Joins an Exclusive Club of Blockbusters
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now the eighth film in cinema history to cross the $2 billion threshold. It joins a very select group of movies that include Avatar ($2.9 billion), Avengers: Endgame ($2.7 billion), Avatar: The Way of Water ($2.3 billion), Titanic ($2.2 billion), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.07 billion), and Avengers: Infinity War ($2.03 billion). The film is also the first solo superhero movie to ever reach this milestone.
The movie reached $1 billion after just six days of release. Its opening weekend alone brought in a record-setting $355 million in North America and a massive $932 million globally. Those numbers put it among the biggest opening weekends in box office history.
Third Weekend Performance Shows Strong Staying Power
During its third weekend in theaters, Brand New Day added another $70 million domestically. This is the second-best third weekend performance ever, behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens which earned $90.2 million in its third weekend. Internationally, the film brought in $118.7 million from 67 markets during the same period.
The film’s domestic total now stands at $785.8 million, making it the fourth highest-grossing release in North American history. It has already passed Avatar‘s domestic total of $785.2 million. The next film on the list is Spider-Man: No Way Home at $814.8 million.
Strong Performance Across International Markets
The film has performed exceptionally well in markets around the world. China led the international box office during the third weekend with $10 million, bringing its total there to $210 million. Other top performing markets include:
- France: $9.1 million weekend, $63.7 million total

A Historic Run at the Box Office
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already broken multiple records during its theatrical run. It is the highest-grossing Spider-Man film ever, the highest-grossing comic book movie of the decade, and the highest-grossing Hollywood film in India. The film is also the highest-grossing Hollywood release in China this year.
The movie achieved all of this without a traditional IMAX release in North America during its opening weekend. IMAX screens were reserved for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Despite that, the film still earned $19 million in IMAX globally during its opening weekend, which was the biggest IMAX opening in Spider-Man franchise history.
The film now sits at No. 4 on the all-time domestic box office chart and No. 8 on the all-time global chart. With its current momentum, it could climb even higher in the coming weeks.
