Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja have been in the news for months over their marital issues. The situation took a new turn when Sunita was spotted at a family court in Mumbai. Later, Govinda’s manager Shashi Sinha confirmed that Sunita had withdrawn the divorce petition she had filed against the actor. But he also openly questioned why she filed for divorce in the first place if she was going to take it back.
Sunita Ahuja visited the Bandra family court in Mumbai on Wednesday with her son Yashvardhan Ahuja and their lawyer. Her appearance created a lot of buzz and people started talking about her marriage again. When reporters asked her about the visit, she did not give a direct answer. She joked and said, “Birthday manane aaye hai (I came to celebrate birthday)”.
Later, Govinda’s manager Shashi Sinha spoke to the media and cleared the air. He confirmed that Sunita had gone to the court to withdraw the divorce case, not to file a new one.
Manager Questions Why Case Was Filed at All
Shashi Sinha did not hold back his feelings about the whole situation. He said he was happy that the divorce proceedings had been withdrawn but questioned why the matter had reached the court at all.
In an interview with NDTV, Sinha expressed his disappointment over how the couple’s differences played out in the media for nearly one-and-a-half to two years. He felt that this caused unnecessary damage to their reputation.
“Zarurat nahi thi jaane ki. Ghar ki baatein ghar mein reh ke, baith ke baatein karke, bahut sab cheezein hoti hain. Aaj wapas lena tha, to kiya tha kyun? Ye baat ka mujhe dukh ho gaya. Kahe ko phir tamaasha hum log ban gaye? (There was no need for people to know about it. Matters concerning the family could have been discussed and resolved privately, within the home. If the intention was to withdraw the case today, then why was it filed in the first place? That is what saddens me. Why did we have to become a spectacle for everyone?)”
Sinha stressed that disagreements are common in relationships. He said many such issues could have been handled privately without going to court. He added that once a dispute reaches the courts, it becomes public knowledge and the whole world knows about it.
Govinda Has No Reaction to Withdrawal
Sinha also shared that Govinda has not reacted to the development. The actor chose to stay neutral throughout the case and continues to do so.
“Bhagwan sabko sadbuddhi dein, sab log buddhi se chalein (May God grant wisdom to everyone and may people act sensibly. That is what is best). Bas yahi achha hai. Confusion and misunderstandings within a family can be resolved by sitting together and talking. Problems may become big, but they are not impossible to sort out.”
The manager said that Govinda had no reaction at all and that everything had just happened minutes ago. He spoke well for everyone involved, including Govinda, Sunita, and their children.
Sunita Filed for Divorce in 2024
Reports had earlier claimed that Sunita Ahuja filed a divorce petition against Govinda at the Bandra Family Court on December 5, 2024. The petition was filed under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, and cited adultery, cruelty, and desertion.
The couple’s marriage has been under scrutiny for the past two years. Sunita had made several serious allegations against Govinda during this time, and he had responded intermittently.
The ‘Sugar Daddy’ Remark and Public Spat
The tension between the couple became more public after Sunita made a controversial comment about Govinda. She called him a “sugar daddy” while speaking about his reported closeness to his ‘Roopa’ co-star Komal Rani Swarnkar.
Sunita had previously claimed in public that Govinda was having an affair with the actress. Pictures and videos of Govinda and Komal Rani Swarnkar posing for paparazzi at the airport went viral on social media.
Govinda responded to the allegations in a video message. He asked Sunita to be careful about what she says publicly and told her to “know your limits”. He also accused her of using a podcast to humiliate him.
In his video, Govinda said: “Jo kaam baahar mujhe milta hai, woh main karta nahin hoon, aur jo main kar raha hoon, usmein aap hastakshep kar rahi hain (I do not take up every opportunity that comes my way, and yet you are interfering in the work I am currently doing)”.
He also recalled how he had supported Sunita’s professional commitments in the past, including her involvement in shows like ‘Laughter Chefs’ and ‘Lock Upp’.

When asked about the withdrawal, Shashi Sinha told IANS that Sunita had withdrawn the petition of her own will. He said, “Govinda ji has never badmouthed anyone. Sunita Ji had filed the case, and she herself has now withdrawn it. It is a family matter; something must have come to her mind so that she decided to withdraw the case”.
Sinha also addressed speculation about whether the children, Tina Ahuja and Yashvardhan Ahuja, had pressured Sunita to rethink her decision. He said he could not comment on that but added that none of them wished for the divorce to take place.
“Sab log darr kyu rahe hai. Sunita ji ne apna case wapas liya hai. Yeh toh khush hone ki baat hai. Woh itne gusse mein nazar aayi toh sabko laga hoga kuch problem hui, par ab sab theek hai dono mein (Why is everyone getting worried? Sunita ji has withdrawn her case. This is something to be happy about. She appeared quite angry, so everyone must have thought that something was wrong, but everything is fine between the two of them now).”
Marriage Kept Secret Initially
Govinda and Sunita Ahuja got married in March 1987. However, they kept their marriage a secret until their daughter Tina’s birth in 1988. They have two children, Tina Ahuja, who is 37, and Yashvardhan Ahuja, who is 29.
The couple’s relationship has faced speculation about possible differences for several years. On the work front, Govinda will next be seen in the film ‘Roopa’ with debut actress Komal Rani Swarnkar.
