The creator of the global sensation Squid Game is making his way back to the big screen. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed his next project, a film titled ‘K.O. Club‘. The movie brings together an exceptional group of South Korean actors, including Lee Byung-hun, Oh Jung-se, Park Hae-soo, Cho Yeo-jeong, and Kim So-jin. Production company Firstman Studio announced the casting on August 27, 2026. This project marks Hwang Dong-hyuk’s first feature film in ten years, following his work on the historical drama The Fortress in 2017.
A Story About Wealth, Youth, and Generational Conflict
‘K.O. Club’ is set in a near-future world where money can buy youth itself. The title is an abbreviation for “Killing Oldmen Club”. The plot focuses on the growing conflict between a small group of wealthy older people who hold all the power and refuse to give it up. They face off against a younger generation that has been left without opportunities. This premise imagines a society where the rich can escape aging, allowing them to keep their influence forever. The younger generation, seeing no way forward, is pushed to extreme measures in response.
Lee Byung-hun and Park Hae-soo Reunite with the Director
Two stars from the Squid Game series are reuniting with director Hwang Dong-hyuk for this film. Lee Byung-hun, who played the Front Man in the hit series, will take on the lead role in ‘K.O. Club’. He is known for his powerful performances in movies like I Can’t Help It and The Match. Park Hae-soo, another Squid Game cast member, is also returning to work with the director. Park Hae-soo has delivered intense performances in films such as The Scarecrow and The Price of Confession. Their reunion with Hwang Dong-hyuk is a major point of interest for fans of the original series.
Oh Jung-se, Cho Yeo-jeong, and Kim So-jin Add Star Power
The film’s cast also includes three highly respected actors who are working with director Hwang for the first time. Oh Jung-se is known for his memorable roles in dramas like It’s Okay to Not Be Okay and films such as Wild Thing. Cho Yeo-jeong gained international fame for her role in the Oscar-winning film Parasite. She has also appeared in Hidden Face and the series Made in Korea. Kim So-jin is a veteran actress who has built a strong career with films like The Man Standing Next and The Drug King.
A Return to Film Directing After a Decade
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk is a major figure in the entertainment world. He created the Squid Game series, which became Netflix’s most popular show ever. The series earned 14 Emmy nominations and won six awards, making history as the first non-English series to achieve that feat. Before Squid Game, Hwang directed acclaimed films such as Silenced, Miss Granny, and The Fortress. ‘K.O. Club’ will be his first movie since The Fortress. The production is handled by First Man Studio, a company founded by Hwang and producer Kim Ji-yeon, who also worked on Squid Game.
