Disney+ has confirmed the premiere date for its most expensive Korean drama production to date. The streaming service released the first teaser trailer and character posters for The Remarried Empress on August 26, 2026. The fantasy romance series will arrive on November 4, 2026, with the first four episodes dropping at once.
The live-action adaptation comes from the massively popular web novel and webtoon of the same name, which has gathered nearly 3 billion global views. The series brings together a star-studded cast including Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Jong-suk, and Lee Se-young. The teaser offers a first look at the royal world filled with betrayal, power struggles, and a empress who refuses to stay broken.
A Royal Betrayal That Changes Everything
The story centers on Navier (Shin Min-a), the respected Empress of the Eastern Empire. Her marriage to Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji-hoon) seems perfect from the outside. But everything starts to fall apart when Sovieshu falls for Rashta (Lee Se-young), a runaway slave who enters the imperial court.
The teaser shows Sovieshu making a promise to Navier, saying, “No matter what happens, you are my only wife”. But his feelings for Rashta grow stronger. In one scene, he admits, “I missed you Rashta”. Rashta appears ready to accept her new life and status in the royal court.
Navier watches her marriage fall apart but keeps her emotions in check. The situation becomes more complicated when Crown Prince Heinrey (Lee Jong-suk) arrives from the Western Kingdom. As Heinrey grows closer to Navier, Sovieshu’s jealousy becomes harder to hide.
The teaser builds toward the key moment when Sovieshu declares, “I must divorce the Empress”. Navier responds with a statement that changes everything: “I will accept the divorce. And I demand that I can remarry”. Instead of letting the betrayal defeat her, Navier chooses to take control of her own future.
Star Cast Brings the Imperial World to Life
The four lead actors bring the royal characters to life in the teaser and character posters released on August 26. Shin Min-a looks every bit the poised and powerful empress. She steps into the role of Navier following her popular performances in Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, No Gain No Love, and Oh My Venus.
Ju Ji-hoon carries the authority of Emperor Sovieshu, showing a ruler who holds absolute power but makes choices that destroy his marriage. Lee Jong-suk brings a mysterious charm to Prince Heinrey, the playboy prince from an enemy kingdom who becomes Navier’s new hope. Lee Se-young portrays Rashta, a slave who suddenly rises to a position of power and appears determined to enjoy her new life.

A Lavish Production with Big Budget
Disney+ has put significant resources into The Remarried Empress. The series is being called the most expensive Korean drama the streamer has ever produced. Filming took place across multiple European palaces, and the production team built elaborate sets to create the grand royal world.
The series comes from director Cho Su-won, whose previous work includes I Can Hear Your Voice, Pinocchio, and Still 17. The scripts come from Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choong-yeol.
The source material has a massive global following. The webtoon has been translated into 10 languages and has strong international viewership, especially in Japan. The webtoon ended its seven-year run in January 2026 but will return this fall with side stories.
Release Schedule and Where to Watch
The Remarried Empress will premiere on Disney+ and Hulu on November 4, 2026. The first four episodes will be available on the first day. After that, two new episodes will be released every Wednesday. The series will have a total of 10 episodes, with the finale arriving on November 25, 2026.
Before the streaming debut, the series will have a world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in October 2026. Three episodes will be shown at the festival as part of the On Screen section, which showcases new series on the big screen before their release. The 31st Busan International Film Festival runs from October 6 to 15.
