What Happened Before Episode 8
The story takes place in the Kingdom of Ei, where five noble families send their daughters to the Maiden Court to compete for the position of empress. Kou Reirin, known as the “court butterfly,” is beautiful, kind, and beloved by everyone around her. Shu Keigetsu, called the “court rat,” is hated and treated as a villainess.
On the night of the Double Sevens Festival, Keigetsu uses forbidden magic to swap bodies with Reirin. Reirin wakes up in Keigetsu’s body and learns her execution has already been decided. But Reirin, who has been sickly and weak her whole life, is actually happy to have a healthy body.
Episode 3 showed Reirin (in Keigetsu’s body) devoting herself to farm work and enjoying her new freedom. Her personal court lady Leelee was told to harass her but found it difficult.
Episode 4 covered Reirin proposing to end the body swap, but Keigetsu refused. Episode 5 took Reirin and Leelee to the Ghost Festival ritual to settle a score with Gayou.
Episode 6 saw Reirin trying to save Keigetsu, who was in critical condition. The empress gave Reirin a task to help.
Episode 7, which aired on August 23, 2026, continued the drama. Kou Tousetsu, the Kou clan court lady, realized something was wrong when she thought about why she believed someone like Shu Keigetsu was Lady Reirin. Reirin continued to enjoy her new life while preparing to meet Keigetsu at the Ghost Festival. Leelee started to suspect that the person in Keigetsu’s body was not the same person she knew.
