The feature first appears on the German series Maxton Hall. The tool uses AI and visual effects to change how actors’ lips move on screen so they match the human-dubbed audio track.
The technology adjusts the video image without replacing the work of voice actors. Human voice artists still record all the dialogue. The AI tool only works on the visual side after the dubbing is complete. It changes the lip and face movements of the actors to fit the translated speech. This process aims to remove the noticeable difference between what viewers see and what they hear.
Raf Soltanovich, Vice President of Technology at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, spoke about the new feature.
“With lip-syncing, we’re creating a more seamless and immersive way for customers to enjoy global content. And for creators, we’re making it easier for their stories to reach an even broader and global audience, all done under creative oversight to ensure the integrity of their artistic vision is preserved.”
Amazon said the tool works under creative supervision to protect the artistic vision of the original filmmakers.
Maxton Hall Becomes the First Series With AI Lip-Sync
Maxton Hall, the German romance series, is the first show on Prime Video to use this AI lip-sync technology. The series is based on the 2018 novel Save Me by Mona Kasten. It is Prime Video’s most-watched international original series ever. The show stars Harriet Herbig-Matten and Damian Hardung in lead roles.
The English dubbed versions of seasons 1 and 2 now include the AI lip-sync feature. Subscribers around the world can watch these seasons with the improved dubbing. The third and final season, set to release on December 9, 2026, will also include the technology when it arrives.
Prime Video plans to bring this feature to more movies and TV shows in the future. The company did not share which specific AI tools it used to develop the feature.
How the AI Lip-Sync Technology Works
The technology combines AI with visual effects to modify the on-screen image. It adjusts the lip movements of actors so they appear to speak the dubbed dialogue naturally. The system changes the pixels on screen to match the translated speech. This approach is similar to what other tech companies are exploring. YouTube has also shown a demo of AI-powered lip-syncing for translated audio.
Amazon described the feature as “visual dubbing”. The process only changes the picture. The audio track still comes from human voice actors. This means the quality of the voice performances remains unchanged while the visual experience improves.
The company tested AI-aided dubbing last year. Prime Video ran a pilot program that used AI-generated voices for movies and series that otherwise would not receive dubs. However, the new lip-sync tool is different. It does not replace voice actors. It requires a human-dubbed audio track to work.

For viewers who watch dubbed content, this technology could make the experience much better. The mismatch between lip movements and audio has been a long-standing problem with dubbing. Maxton Hall Season 3 will premiere on December 9, 2026. The final season is based on Mona Kasten’s novel Save Me. The story follows Ruby as she tries to prove her innocence with James’s help before time runs out for her Oxford University dreams.
