Elizabeth Holmes is serving her prison sentence at a federal camp in Bryan, Texas, but her partner Billy Evans remains by her side. Their unusual relationship is now the focus of a secretly filmed documentary that premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and arrives in theaters in October 2026.
Who Is Billy Evans and How Did He Meet Elizabeth Holmes
Billy Evans, 33, is the heir to the Evans Hotel Group, a luxury hotel company in San Diego founded by his grandparents. He graduated from MIT with a bachelor’s degree in economics and previously worked as an analyst at LinkedIn. He is currently the CEO of Haemanthus, a biotechnology research company.
Holmes and Evans met in the fall of 2017 at a Fleet Week charity event in San Francisco. At that time, Holmes was already under federal investigation for fraud connected to Theranos, her blood-testing startup.
Evans wrote a letter to the judge ahead of Holmes’ sentencing in September 2022. In that letter, he described his first impression of her.
“I was captivated by her childish wonder and authenticity. She listened more intently than anyone I had ever met.”
The couple did not start dating right away. Evans admitted in the letter that they were “just friends” for the first six months. He was hesitant because of everything he had heard about Holmes.
“I was naturally conflicted, the person I knew did not align with the narrative others had crafted.”
Holmes also spoke about their connection. She told People magazine that she was “totally in love with him” and that talking to him for hours was “the most pointed moment in my life.”
“The rest of the world ceased to exist,” Evans wrote in his letter to the sentencing judge.
A Proposal, Two Children, and a Life Under the Radar
Evans proposed to Holmes in 2018 after they attended a Taylor Swift Reputation concert together. He used a silver snake ring that he bought at the concert, according to People.
As the media attention around Holmes grew, the couple went to extreme lengths to avoid the spotlight. They spent six months living in a truck, traveling through national forests and parks.
“We spent six months traveling the national forests and parks of this country in a truck camping beneath the stars. The peace and quiet out of the spotlight was refreshing,” Evans wrote.
Holmes and Evans have two children together. Their son, William, was born in July 2021, just weeks before Holmes’ fraud trial was set to begin. Their daughter, Invicta, was born in February 2023, a few months before Holmes reported to prison.
Holmes told People that she always wanted to be a mother.
“I know how the optics look, but I always wanted to be a mother. I truly did not think I would ever be convicted or found guilty.”
The couple got engaged eight years ago but have not had a wedding. Holmes told People that their bond goes beyond a legal document.
“Maybe we’ll get married someday. But our bond is more than a piece of paper.”
Elizabeth Holmes’ Prison Sentence and Release Date
Holmes was convicted in January 2022 on four counts — three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud — for defrauding Theranos investors. She was originally sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison.
In March 2026, a federal judge reduced her sentence by one year under a retroactive change to federal sentencing guidelines for first-time, non-violent offenders. Her new sentence is 123 months, which is about 10 years and three months.
Holmes reported to Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas on May 30, 2023. The Bureau of Prisons lists her projected release date as February 22, 2030. She will also serve three years of supervised release after leaving prison.
Holmes and Evans share simple moments during weekly visits at the prison. The family draws with crayons, plays with Legos, and searches for insects in the prison yard.
“When I’m with Billy, I feel infinity. It’s why I want to fight for love and fight for my family, because I know what it means,” Holmes told People.
Inside the You Can See Everything Documentary
A24 revealed a previously unannounced documentary about Holmes on September 6, 2026. The film is titled You Can See Everything. It is directed by comedian Nathan Fielder and filmmaker Lance Oppenheim.
The documentary premiered as a secret screening at the 53rd Telluride Film Festival on September 6, 2026. It will have a theatrical release in October 2026, with a nationwide release date set for October 16.
The film was shot over three years. It began 34 days before Holmes entered prison in 2023. Fielder and a small camera crew lived with Holmes, Evans, and their two children at a rental home in San Diego.
Evans admitted in the documentary that he posted from Holmes’ official X account while pretending to be her. He also appeared to make key business decisions on her behalf.
Fielder spoke at a Q&A after the Telluride premiere about his experience making the film.
“I’m struggling to this day to understand exactly what I experienced. I don’t know why they want me there. I’m a weird guy. I don’t get it. That messed with my head.”
Fielder also revealed that Evans tried to control the documentary near the end of production.
“Near the end of the process, Billy was trying to exert, we felt, a lot of control over the process, and what he sort of had desired and it sort of caused our communication to break down a little bit.”
Holmes and Evans have not seen the documentary yet. The film has a nearly three-hour runtime.
Holmes is promoting the documentary from prison through her official X account. In a trailer clip, she tells Fielder that she is being honest with him.
“Of course I’m not deceiving you. I’m engaging with you as a human being. Why would I deceive you? There’s no reason for me to do that.”
Billy Evans New Blood Testing Startup Haemanthus
Evans is leading a new health technology company called Haemanthus, which is Greek for “blood flower.” The startup aims to build AI-driven devices that use lasers to scan blood, saliva, and urine for diseases, including cancer and infections.
Haemanthus has raised a reported $18 million — $3.5 million from friends and family and $15 million from other investors. The company plans to first bring its technology to veterinary medicine before expanding to human applications.
Holmes has been advising Evans on the startup from prison, according to sources who spoke with NPR. She does not have a formal role in the company, and a source familiar with Haemanthus said she is not planning to take one.
A Silicon Valley biotech insider told the New York Post that Holmes’ involvement in a new blood-testing venture is a serious concern.
“She is shameless and delusional to think that she could be taken seriously again by any medical and biotech professionals. This is completely a joke. It sounds exactly like Theranos 2.0.”
The company has no publicly disclosed scientific advisors or peer-reviewed research for its product, according to the New York Post.

Holmes remains at FPC Bryan in Texas. The prison camp is considered one of the better minimum-security facilities for safety and comfort. Other notable inmates include Ghislaine Maxwell and reality TV star Jen Shah.
Holmes filed a request with the Trump administration in 2025 asking for her prison sentence to be commuted. That request was still pending as of January 2026.
She continues to maintain her innocence. In the documentary, she tells Fielder that she is not the person the public believes her to be.
“I’m not that person, I can promise you that.”
