What Happened in Episode 2: Akira, Haruka and the ENIA Reveal
Episode 2, titled “Vertex,” picked up right after Akira’s first power activation. Two girls, Eleanor Northbrook and Lala Zudenstein, appeared in Okinawa. Eleanor pointed a gun at Akira and demanded that he hand over ENIA. Haruka stepped in, and the two Engine users clashed directly. Haruka was at a disadvantage until Lala stopped the fight.
The episode explained the bigger picture. Akira’s power is not a standard Engine but ENIA, a weapon built by EDVA. The warriors of the planet Theia, known as the Vertex, stole ENIA from EDVA. Eleanor wanted to destroy ENIA to keep it away from EDVA. Lala argued that ENIA could be used as bait or as a weapon against EDVA. The two girls then tried to recruit Akira and Haruka.
Haruka hesitated because she had always seen herself as Akira’s protector. Another EDVA attack drone arrived, and Haruka could not handle it alone. Akira triggered ENIA under pressure and learned to fight with it. Eleanor and Lala delivered the finishing blow. After that fight, Haruka agreed to join the team. The four characters left Okinawa to find another Vertex, with EDVA watching from a distance.
The official episode synopsis from the Vertex Force website sums up the story foundation:
“Akira lives a peaceful life with his older sister Haruka and his mother, who runs a café. The family however harbors a secret — Haruka has inherited a power from her father called ‘Engine,’ and she hides that power from others.” — Vertex Force official synopsis
Yoko Nishina and the Hokkaido Trip in Episode 3
Episode 3 sends the group to Hokkaido to look for the fifth Vertex. Akira gets separated from the others during the trip. Yoko Nishina finds him and helps him. Yoko is a 17-year-old high school student who lives in Hokkaido. She has a Teian mother, which connects her directly to the larger alien conflict. She is described as kind and gentle, but she carries a certain trauma that shapes how she reacts to the group.
Rie Takahashi voices Yoko. The character’s introduction gives the series another young fighter with a personal connection to Theia. Her Teian background also expands the show’s world beyond Okinawa and the four original leads. The episode title, “Passionate Feelings,” points to the emotional weight Yoko brings to the story.
