- Episode 1 — “That Sinking Feeling”: Thursday, October 15, 2026. A sinkhole opens in downtown Los Angeles, and the 118 rescues victims before the hole turns into something far worse. Athena investigates a burned man who cannot explain his injuries, and Maddie notices a pattern in emergency calls that points to a larger threat.
- Episode 2 — “Fire in the Hole”: Thursday, October 22, 2026. The volcano emergency continues. The 118 deals with the fallout from the eruption, and Athena and Detective Newell work a case that may connect to the disaster.
- Episode 3 — “Streets of Fire”: Thursday, October 29, 2026. The aftermath of the eruption puts the team in a new kind of danger as the city tries to recover.
- Episode 4 — “Imposter Syndrome”: Thursday, November 5, 2026. The season takes a break from the volcano arc and returns to a more personal case for Athena and the team.
- Episode 5: Thursday, November 12, 2026. The title has not been shared, but the episode keeps the weekly Thursday schedule.
ABC has not released titles or synopses for episodes beyond the fourth, and the full 18-episode run will stretch deep into 2027 with the usual winter breaks.
New Cast Members and Character Changes
The season adds several new faces while shifting the roles of long-time characters.
Rick Otto joins as Detective Newell, Athena’s new partner at the LAPD. Newell first appeared briefly in Season 9 and returns as a full partner in Season 10. 9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear described the pairing to TV Insider: “Athena is a combination of really experienced and a rookie because she’s new to being officially a detective, but their dynamic is not like the dynamics we played with other detectives. It’s supportive and they’re a good team”.
“He was in the walk-in freezer with Captain Maynard when Athena was undercover. You just saw him briefly,” Minear said. “I think they’re really fun together”.
Rob Huebel plays Ty Worrell, the head of the Office of Emergency Management who questions why no one saw the sinkhole coming. Ty dismisses Maddie’s warnings about the rising emergency calls, and the decision costs him by the end of the premiere.
Brie Carter appears in the season premiere, though details about her character have not been shared by ABC. Josh Odsess-Rubin also appears in early episodes, and Anirudh Pisharody returns as Ravi Panikkar with a larger role in the 118’s daily work.
The biggest character shift belongs to Chimney Han, played by Kenneth Choi. Chimney is now the full-time captain of Station 118, taking over after Bobby Nash’s death in Season 8. He served as interim captain in Season 9 and officially inherited the title in Season 9, Episode 6, “Family History”.

Athena is now a full detective, May Grant (played by Corinne Massiah) is in nursing school, and Harry Grant (played by Elijah M. Cooper) is working as a firefighter after completing his training in Season 9.
Things You Might Not Know About Season 10
Oliver Stark and three other performers were injured during Season 10 production. The injuries were stunt-related and happened over several months of filming. Deadline reported that the performers sustained injuries “to varying degrees,” and the incidents put the show’s stunt safety protocols under review again.
The volcano arc is a multi-episode emergency, a format 9-1-1 has used before with disasters like the tsunami in Season 3. The premiere only set up the eruption; the real damage unfolds across the first three episodes.
Buck’s foster parenting story is based on a thread from Season 9. Theo was conceived using Buck’s donated sperm, and Buck agreed to foster him after Theo’s parents died in a car crash. Lincoln and Theodore Sykes play Theo, and the character’s behavior creates tension between Buck and Eddie in the premiere.
Maddie Han is now running the dispatch center. Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character moved into a leadership role after Maddie’s years as a dispatcher, and the position puts her in the middle of the emergency response decisions that drive the volcano arc.
Peter Krause does not appear in Season 10. Bobby Nash died in Season 8, Episode 15, “Lab Rats,” and the show has moved forward without him. Krause has appeared only in flashbacks and visions since his exit.
