Law & Order: SVU Season 28 premiered on Thursday, October 8, 2026, and it is already shaping up to be one of the most eventful seasons in the show’s long history. The season brings a major milestone — the 600th episode — along with a high-profile reunion, a new prosecutor, a jury consultant who challenges Benson’s methods, and a surprising guest appearance from a New York sports star.

The season airs every Thursday at 9 PM ET/PT on NBC, with episodes streaming the next day on Peacock. Law & Order Season 26 follows at 10 PM ET, keeping the Thursday night block intact. The show is also celebrating its place as the longest-running scripted primetime series, and the milestone episode arrives early in the season rather than at the end.

Full Episode Schedule for Season 28

The first five episodes have confirmed titles and air dates. NBC has not released titles or synopses for episodes beyond the fifth at this point, but the weekly Thursday pattern is locked in.

  • Episode 1 — “Volition”: Thursday, October 8, 2026. A sexual assault survivor’s case is complicated by questions of intoxication and consent, leading to a mistrial and a rift between Benson and A.D.A. Sonny Carisi.
  • Episode 2 — “Midway”: Thursday, October 15, 2026. A mother’s panicked call leads Detective Curry to a carnival where a young boy has gone missing, and the case takes a dark turn.
  • Episode 3 — “Anonymity”: Thursday, October 22, 2026. The SVU races to dismantle a dark web network exploiting children, and a conflict with federal investigators threatens the case.
  • Episode 4: Thursday, October 29, 2026. The title has not been confirmed, but this episode continues the season’s early run of cases.
  • Episode 5: Thursday, November 5, 2026. New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson makes his guest appearance in this episode.
  • Episode 6 — The 600th Episode: Thursday, November 12, 2026. Christopher Meloni returns as Elliot Stabler for the landmark episode.

The milestone episode arrives only five weeks after the premiere, giving the season an unusually packed opening stretch. The season is expected to run beyond these confirmed dates, but NBC has not shared the full 20-plus episode calendar yet.

New Cast Members Joining the Squad

Season 28 adds several new faces to the SVU universe, and each one changes the show’s dynamics in a different way.

Jelani Alladin joins as A.D.A. Aidan Hawkins, a bold prosecutor who works alongside Carisi and Benson. Alladin is known for his role in tick, tick… BOOM! and has previously appeared in the FBI franchise. His character’s aggressive approach creates friction with Carisi from the first episode.

“Benson appreciates Hawkins’ no-nonsense approach with the jury, but Carisi has some hold-ups,” NBC’s official character guide notes.

J. Smith-Cameron, best known as Gerri Kellman on Succession, has a recurring role as Gwen Sharpe, a jury consultant who becomes a sounding board for Benson. Sharpe debuts in the season premiere and pushes Benson to rethink how she fights for justice within a flawed legal system.

“She really came in fully ready with the character,” Mariska Hargitay said of Smith-Cameron in an interview with Give Me My Remote. “We were like, ‘Oh, there’s Gwen. There she is.’”

Lindsay Mendez returns as defense attorney Andrea Vargas, and Lizzy DeClement appears as assault survivor Emily Dawson in the premiere.

Jalen Brunson‘s guest spot in Episode 5 was confirmed by NBC and Variety. The Knicks captain and Mariska Hargitay share a well-known friendship, and his role details have been kept under wraps, leaving viewers to discover how he fits into the episode.

The 600th Episode and Stabler’s Return

Christopher Meloni officially returns as Elliot Stabler for the 600th episode on November 12, 2026. Stabler left SVU after Season 12 and later led Law & Order: Organized Crime, which was cancelled, opening the door for his return to the original series.

Hargitay teased the reunion on social media with a photo of the two together and the caption, “I got my old partner back.” Whether Meloni appears beyond the milestone episode has not been confirmed, and Hargitay declined to reveal that detail in interviews.

“Law & Order: SVU is celebrating 600 episodes this season,” Kelli Giddish told NBC Insider. “So we can tease that there will be some excellent guest stars that I’m sure the audience will love seeing.”

Behind-the-Scenes Details from Production

Mariska Hargitay shared behind-the-scenes footage from Season 28 production, including a video of herself and director Juan José Campanella scouting camera angles on the Coney Island Ferris wheel. The cast also filmed scenes across New York City, keeping the show’s location identity intact.

Ice-T confirmed in July 2026 that he would appear in every episode of Season 28 after having reduced screen time in the previous season. Hargitay also revealed a new short bob hairstyle for Benson in a behind-the-scenes photo shared by Ice-T as filming began.

The season premiere, “Volition,” was written and filmed in July 2026, but its story about a gang rape case drew attention for its similarities to the Cornell 7 case. Showrunner Michele Fazekas told Variety that the episode was not designed to mirror the case but that the timing made it feel timely.

“The law is real,” Fazekas said, referring to the legal standard that requires a victim to be physically helpless or given an intoxicating substance without consent. “I hope that’s something that is talked about more.”
