Jane Levy walked into a screening of her 2013 horror film Evil Dead and walked out with the internet talking. During a post-screening Q&A on October 20, 2026, the actress asked the audience a direct question about Mia Allen, the character she played in the reboot. The crowd’s reaction was loud enough to restart a conversation that has followed the franchise for 13 years. Levy did not confirm anything, but she did not deny anything either.
The Question That Started It All
Levy attended a screening of Fede Álvarez‘s Evil Dead hosted by Contra Celluloid in Los Angeles. The event included a Q&A with the actress, and the conversation turned to the rumors that have followed her since the film’s release. Rather than answer directly, she turned the question around to the room.
“I have a question. Do you guys think Mia should come back to Evil Dead?” — Jane Levy
The audience responded with loud applause. Levy played it cool. “OK, cool, I was just checking. That’s all,” she said, according to Deadline. Then she added a joke that made the moment stick: “Let’s call Sam’s Skype number right now and see if he wants Mia to come back.”
The Sam she meant is Sam Raimi, the creator of the Evil Dead franchise and a producer on the 2013 film. The comment was clearly a joke, but it landed differently because Levy has never ruled out a return. She also could have shut the rumors down entirely during the Q&A. She chose not to.
What Happened to Mia in the 2013 Film
Mia Allen was a recovering heroin addict who went to a remote cabin with her brother and friends to detox. The group found the Naturom Demonto, the Book of the Dead, and read from it. A demon known as the Taker of Souls possessed Mia and tore the group apart.
Mia survived the film, but not easily. She lost her left hand and killed the final demon with a chainsaw before crawling away from the cabin as the blood rain stopped. The ending left her alive and alone, which is why fans have spent more than a decade asking what happened to her next. A post-credits scene in the 2013 film teased that Mia might meet Ash Williams, but that meeting never happened on screen.
Why Mia Did Not Return in Evil Dead Rise
Evil Dead Rise arrived in 2023 with a new cast and a new setting, moving the horror from a cabin to a Los Angeles apartment building. Lee Cronin directed that film, and Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan led the cast. Mia was not part of the story.
Levy explained the absence in an earlier interview with Collider. She said she wanted to take a break from horror because the 2013 shoot was physically and emotionally demanding. The role required hours of prosthetic work, possession scenes, and a physically brutal final act. Levy stepped away from the genre for several years, and the franchise moved forward with standalone stories instead.
The Franchise Mia Would Return To
The Evil Dead series has changed shape since 2013. Bruce Campbell retired from playing Ash Williams after the Starz series Ash vs Evil Dead ended in 2018. Campbell later confirmed he was completely finished with the role following a cancer diagnosis. That retirement removed the character fans most expected Mia to meet.
Three films have arrived since Levy’s reboot. Evil Dead Rise came in 2023. Evil Dead Burn, directed by Sébastien Vaniček, arrived in 2026. The next chapter is Evil Dead Wrath, a prequel set in 1972 that will release on April 7, 2028. Francis Galluppi is directing Wrath, and producer Robert Tapert described it as “another great departure” from the franchise.
A return for Mia would not fit neatly into a 1972 prequel. The character belongs to the modern era of the franchise, which means any Mia comeback would likely happen in a separate installment rather than Wrath itself. Reports about Levy joining Wrath remain unconfirmed, and no deal has been announced by the studio or by Levy’s representatives.
What Levy Has Said About Horror Since 2013
Levy has been moving back toward the genre in recent years. She stars in the slasher film River, which Bloody Disgusting described as one of the year’s standout horror releases. She also has a small role in Whalefall, a deep-sea thriller now in theatres. That return to horror makes a Mia comeback less of a scheduling problem than it was a few years ago.
Dread Central noted that Evil Dead Burn included a post-credits moment that hinted at a larger connected universe within the franchise. That detail matters because it suggests the series is open to bringing back characters from different eras. Mia is the most requested name on that list.
