Sai Pallavi made a direct request to Dhanush at the audio launch of their upcoming film OM – Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood in Chennai on November 6, 2026. The actress asked him not to leave acting, pointing to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay as an example of a star who stepped away from cinema after entering politics. Dhanush responded to the political speculation around him at the same event, saying that only God, his fans, and the people guide him.

The exchange happened in front of thousands of fans at Sairam Engineering College in Tambaram, where the film’s pre-release event was held ahead of its November 20, 2026 theatrical release.

What Sai Pallavi Said at the OM Event

Sai Pallavi took the stage and spoke about her journey with Dhanush, which began with the song “Rowdy Baby” from Maari 2. She said children still call her “Rowdy Baby Akka” and that she had wanted to share screen space with Dhanush again.

Then she turned to the political talk surrounding him. “On the way here, I saw so many flags that it almost felt like a political gathering,” she said.

“Whatever you do, sir, I will support you. Just recently, Vijay sir entered politics and stopped acting. I was hoping and praying that Dhanush sir would always remain with us as an actor. But I am so happy to give you the warmth and compassion that you’ve given me through OM.” — Sai Pallavi at the OM pre-release event

Her words were indirect but clear. She did not say Dhanush was entering politics. She said she hoped he would keep acting even if he chose a different path.

Dhanush’s Reply to the Political Talk

Dhanush followed Sai Pallavi on stage and addressed the rumours without naming any person or party. He said people had been claiming that someone was directing him or standing behind him.

“God is the only one who guides and directs me. My fans are the ones standing behind me, and the people are by my side.” — Dhanush at the OM pre-release event

The actor also used humour during his speech. He said his heart beats “Fans Fans” and called OM a “multi-hero” film rather than a multi-starrer, naming Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela, and composer Sai Abhyankkar as the film’s other heroes before placing himself last on the list.

He asked fans to take care of their families before spending money on public activities and urged them to help people during the November and December rainy season.

Why Politics Is Following Dhanush Right Now

Speculation about Dhanush entering politics has been building since October 2026. On October 14, his fan association was renamed from Dhanush Narpani Mandram to Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam, or the Dhanush Welfare Movement. The change came with a new flag and logo, which led to widespread talk about a political launch.

On October 25, Dhanush met more than 2,500 women associated with the welfare movement at a private college near Chennai. Attendees received silver Kamatchi lamps with a lotus motif engraved on them. The lotus is the election symbol of the BJP, and the detail quickly became a talking point.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B Manickam Tagore alleged that the BJP and RSS were trying to bring another actor into state politics. He called it “Plan C” or “Operation D” and claimed the BJP had earlier tried other routes to build a presence in Tamil Nadu.

Indian Express reported that Dhanush met a senior RSS leader associated with its southern zone in August and September 2026. The report also noted that Dhanush has neither announced a political entry nor shown evidence that those meetings led to a political agreement.

Political parties responded in different ways. TVK leader N Marie Wilson said Dhanush could not challenge Chief Minister Vijay, arguing that Vijay’s movement was built through years of grassroots work. DMK leader S Regupathy said that in a democracy, Dhanush had every right to enter politics, just as Vijay did. AIADMK leader K T Rajendra Balaji publicly invited Dhanush to join his party under Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Dhanush has not declared any political position, launched a party, or outlined an electoral programme.

Vijay’s Path from Cinema to Chief Minister

Sai Pallavi’s reference to Vijay is rooted in a major political shift in Tamil Nadu. Vijay announced his retirement from cinema and formal entry into politics in February 2024, launching Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) as a secular alternative to the established Dravidian parties.

Vijay was sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026. TVK secured 108 seats in the 2026 Assembly elections, emerging as the single largest party and forming a coalition government with the support of the Indian National Congress and smaller parties.

His final film as an actor, Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, was scheduled for a January 9, 2026 Pongal release but became entangled in a standoff with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film later reached theatres in July 2026 after censor delays and piracy leaks.

For Tamil cinema, Vijay’s exit removed one of its biggest box-office draws from the actor pool. Director-actor RJ Balaji dismissed the idea that the industry was left with a void, pointing to Suriya and other working stars.

The Chaos Outside the OM Audio Launch

The OM audio launch made headlines for another reason before the speeches began. Thousands of Dhanush fans gathered at the venue, and the auditorium reached capacity before many ticket-holders could enter. Fans with valid passes were turned away, and videos of heated arguments between fans and police spread on social media.

Dhanush posted an apology on X and took full responsibility.

“It pains me deeply that thousands of fans who had tickets in hand were unable to get in and had to turn back. I don’t want to investigate whose fault this was… I take full responsibility and express my regret. It’s my responsibility to make sure this doesn’t happen again.” — Dhanush on X

The apology was widely shared, with fans acknowledging that the actor addressed the issue directly instead of leaving it to organisers.

About OM – Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood

OM – Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and stars Dhanush, Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, and Sreeleela. The film is described as an action-oriented feature centred on a specialised operation hidden inside a mysterious forest.

Mammootty returns to Tamil cinema after seven years, his last Tamil film being Peranbu. He revealed at the event that a planned 45-day shoot stretched to about six months.

Sai Pallavi plays a police officer in the film. She praised the director for giving every woman character multiple layers and for believing in her ability to play the role.

Director Rajkumar Periasamy revealed that Dhanush stepped in to produce the film when it nearly stalled. Producer Sreyas called it a vintage mass commercial entertainer made on a ₹200 crore budget.

The music is composed by Sai Abhyankkar, and the album has 18 tracks. Dhanush recorded a song called “Alaakaa Loova” but found the pitch too high, so the composer’s version was used instead. Dhanush joked that it was the only song of his that ever got cut.

OM Release Date and Language Details

OM – Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood is scheduled to release in theatres worldwide on November 20, 2026. The film will arrive in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.

The release was moved from its original October 16, 2026 slot to avoid a box-office clash. The new date was confirmed by the makers in early October 2026.

Sithara Entertainments is handling the Telugu release.

Sai Pallavi’s Work After Ramayana

Sai Pallavi attended the OM event fresh off the release of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana Part 1, in which she plays Sita. Her performance in the film has drawn praise, and she is now promoting OM as her next theatrical release.
