Love Island Australia Season 8 has delivered its share of messy moments, but one storyline has become genuinely uncomfortable to sit through. Natalie “Nat” Maree, a 23-year-old airline ground crew worker from the Gold Coast, walked into the Fiji villa and came face-to-face with Jack, the 24-year-old tradie trainer who had ghosted her before the show. They coupled up, became one of the strongest pairs in the villa, and then bombshell Sammi arrived and turned everything upside down. Nat’s response to the threat has been a slow, painful watch, full of territory-marking, put-downs, and contradictions that have left both viewers and her fellow islanders uneasy.

A Ghost From the Past Becomes Her Whole World

The first episode set up Nat and Jack’s reunion as a wild coincidence. Nat screamed “Guys, I think I know him!” as Jack walked in, and then calmly confessed: “He ghosted me”. The show leaned into the awkwardness, but Nat and Jack quickly moved past it. After a steamy kiss, they decided “the past is the past” and became the first couple of the season. Nat’s own cast bio described her as a “lover girl who falls hard and fast,” and that tendency became the engine of everything that followed.

For a while, it looked like a rare Love Island success story. Nat had been given a second chance with a guy who had once disappeared on her. Jack chose her in the first coupling, and the pair seemed solid. Then the bombshells started landing.

Sammi’s Arrival Exposes Nat’s Deepest Fears

Bombshell Ava was the first to test the couple, taking Jack on a Hideaway date in episode one. Nat handled that better than expected, but the arrival of Sammi, a former Miss New Zealand, hit differently. Sammi picked Jack for a one-on-one date, and Jack was visibly excited about it. Nat’s confidence collapsed.

She admitted to fellow islander Shawnee that Sammi was “everything Jack wanted physically in a woman”. That confession set the tone for the rest of the week. Nat was not just threatened. She was certain she was about to lose Jack to someone who matched his type more closely than she did.

The Behaviours That Have Viewers Squirming

The night after Jack’s date with Sammi, Nat got physically intimate with Jack and then delivered a line that has become the defining moment of her arc: “I hope she f***ing hears”. Jack later told Shawnee that Nat had “marked her territory” by sleeping with him. The moment was not about connection. It was about sending a message to another woman, and it landed badly.

Nat followed that up with a comment about Sammi not having kissed or been intimate with a guy for two years, a remark that served no purpose except to make Sammi feel small. She then told Jack that Sammi lacked the “spice” he needed in a girl. Each move was aimed at tearing down the competition rather than strengthening her own bond, and viewers noticed.

The most contradictory moment came when Nat pulled Sammi for a private chat and told her how much of a red flag Jack was. Nat was willing to make her own connection look bad in front of another woman just to keep Jack to herself. Sammi saw through it immediately.

“I felt in the chat that Nat was…she was trying to say how strong they were. But I don’t know. I think that was marking her territory. And I think that is not the way you go about it.”

Sammi’s read was calm and cutting. She understood exactly what Nat was doing, and she refused to play along.

Jack’s Apology Tour Did Not Fix the Damage

The fallout from Jack’s date and his comments did not stay contained. Nat confronted Jack after he said he wanted to “couple up” with Sammi, telling him he had made her feel humiliated.

“It was, like, very clear that I meant nothing to you in that situation for you to then be like, ‘Oh, I’m actually coupled up with Sammi now.’ I actually believed it and started to cry, like nearly cry on the couch. Why would you say that, like, in front of everyone to me, and, like, make me feel humiliated like that?”

Jack apologised and admitted he could have handled the situation better.

“I think I probably could have handled walking in a little bit better, giving Nat a bit more of a kinder reception. Obviously, I know I’ve got Sammi there who hasn’t met anyone, and I’m trying to make it as comfortable as possible for her as well.”

The apology did not change much. Nat refused to hug him after the conversation and told cameras she did not feel any better. Jack, meanwhile, was more focused on how the night with Nat would affect his chances with Sammi.

“I’m just worried that what happened last night will affect how Sammi sees me and how much she wants to get to know me.”

Sammi was not impressed either. She told Jack she doubted his morals if he wanted to get to know her while still sharing a bed with Natalie.

Nat’s Morning-After Line Summed Up the Whole Mess

The morning after Nat and Jack’s intimate night, Nat’s first thought was not about the romance or the connection. It was: “My mum is going to kill me”. The line was funny for about a second, and then it became sad. Nat had spent the night trying to stake a claim on a man who had already ghosted her once, and her first instinct was to worry about how it would look to her mother. Jack’s mind was elsewhere entirely, already calculating how the night would play with Sammi.

The Internet Is Split on Nat

Fan reactions have been mixed. Some viewers feel sorry for Nat, recognising the pain of being ghosted and then watching the same person slip away again. “Ohh Gosh, I imagine its been hard for Nat watching the eps knowing whats to come,” one person wrote. Another was less sympathetic.

“As a girl feeling bad for Nat. but honestly it was very naive to think that you can build healthy and loving relationship with a guy who ghosted you. She fell too hard for him even before show, at the point where Jack doesn’t have to do anything to make her like him. And I really don’t like how Nat talks about women who are ‘threat’ to her, she put all the blame at bombshell.”

The criticism lands because Nat’s behaviour has been less about Jack and more about Sammi. She has spent more energy trying to diminish Sammi than she has trying to understand what Jack actually wants. The desperation is not just about keeping a man. It is about winning a competition that Sammi never agreed to enter.

Sammi’s Private Post May Have Already Spoiled the Ending

Adding to the discomfort is a spoiler that surfaced online. A private Instagram post from Sammi appeared to show her and Jack together after the show, suggesting that Jack ultimately chose Sammi over Nat. The post was deleted and the account deactivated, but screenshots spread across fan pages and Reddit. If the spoiler is accurate, Nat’s entire campaign to keep Jack was always going to fail. She was fighting for a man who was already halfway out the door.
