aespa‘s latest release, Whiplash, has taken the global music scene by storm, debuting at No. 1 on the iTunes Worldwide Album chart and securing top positions across multiple countries. The K-pop group, known for their signature futuristic sound and visuals, continues to rise to new heights with this latest mini-album.

How Whiplash Is Performing Globally

Released on October 21, 2024, Whiplash has quickly become a global sensation. The album shot to the top of iTunes charts in 17 countries, including key markets such as Japan, Thailand, Brazil, Russia, and Turkey. Fans from around the world have shown their support, with the album also leading in countries like Taiwan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, and more.

In China, the reception has been equally overwhelming. Tencent Music’s K-pop chart placed Whiplash in the top spot, with the album also dominating the sales and music video rankings on QQ Music.

Japan has been a major market for aespa as well, with the album ranking No. 1 on the AWA real-time rising chart and topping Mora’s foreign song charts in both the daily and latest rankings. Meanwhile, back home in South Korea, Whiplash quickly claimed the top spots on local platforms like Melon, Bugs, and Genie, continuing aespa’s stronghold in their domestic market.

Tracklist and Highlights of Whiplash

The mini-album features six tracks, including:

  • Kill It
  • Flights
  • Not Feelings
  • Pink Hoodie
  • Flowers
  • Just Another Girl

The title track, Whiplash, has garnered particular attention with its music video, showcasing aespa’s iconic fusion of virtual reality and bold performance aesthetics. The video, released alongside the album, has been highly praised for its cutting-edge visuals and choreography, further cementing the group’s reputation as innovators in the K-pop industry.

aespa’s Comeback After Armageddon

aespa’s return with Whiplash comes just five months after their full album, Armageddon, which included the dual title tracks, Supernova and Armageddon. The group’s previous release enjoyed massive success, with Supernova achieving a Perfect All-Kill (PAK), topping all major charts in South Korea, including Melon, Flo, Genie, Vibe, Bugs, and YouTube. This marked their second PAK, following their 2021 hit Savage from their debut mini-album.

The group has built a reputation for consistently releasing chart-topping hits, and Whiplash is no exception, proving aespa’s growing influence both in South Korea and on the international stage.

About aespa

Formed by SM Entertainment, aespa consists of four members: Winter, Karina, Ningning, and Giselle. Since their debut in 2019 with the single Black Mamba, the group has risen to prominence through hits like Next Level, which catapulted them into mainstream success.

Earlier in 2024, aespa also completed their second world tour, SYNK: PARALLEL LINE, which spanned multiple countries and cities. The tour began with two nights of sold-out performances in Seoul, South Korea, and is expected to feature songs from Whiplash as the group continues to tour.
