So Ji Sub is back in action. The acclaimed actor stars in the upcoming noir action series “Mercy for None,” which will premiere on Netflix in 2025. Based on the popular webtoon “Square,” the drama promises a gritty and intense story with a stellar cast.

A World of Gangs, Betrayal, and Revenge

“Mercy for None” tells the story of Nam Gi Jun (So Ji Sub), a former enforcer for the Bong San Gang, led by Gu Bong San (Ahn Gil Kang). Gi Jun was known for his ruthlessness. He played a key role in the gang’s rise to power. However, his loyalty to his younger brother, Nam Gi Seok (Lee Jun Hyuk), who joined the rival Joo Woon Gang under Lee Joo Woon (Huh Joon Ho), led him to a drastic decision. To leave the criminal world, Gi Jun symbolically and painfully severed his own Achilles tendon.

Eleven years later, Gi Jun lives a quiet life, supplying drinks to Bong San-affiliated businesses. His brother, Gi Seok, has become second-in-command of Joo Woon. Their fragile peace shatters when Gi Seok is murdered. Driven by grief and a thirst for justice, Gi Jun returns to the dangerous world he left behind. He’s determined to find out who killed his brother and get revenge. His quest takes him through a treacherous world of betrayal, power struggles, and moral ambiguity.

A Star-Studded Cast

So Ji Sub delivers a powerful performance as Nam Gi Jun. He captures the character’s raw emotion and inner conflict. The series is set in a Seoul divided by the rivalry between the Bongsan and Joowoon factions. The supporting cast is just as impressive:

  • Lee Beom Soo plays a ruthless fixer.
  • Gong Myung takes on the role of Bong San’s ambitious heir.
  • Choo Young Woo plays the son of Joo Woon’s boss, who is also a prosecutor.
  • Jo Han Chul plays Joo Woon’s loyal right-hand man.
  • Cha Seung Won and Lee Jun Hyuk add further depth to the story.

“Mercy for None” is dark, gripping, and brutal. It aims to redefine the noir genre. Fans of the original webtoon can expect a faithful yet fresh adaptation. The series captures the tension and moral complexity of the source material. Watch for updates on the release date. This is a show you won’t want to miss, only on Netflix.
