The 2025 American Music Awards celebrated the biggest names in music on May 26 in Las Vegas. Billie Eilish emerged as the night’s biggest winner, taking home seven awards, including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year. Hosted by Jennifer Lopez, the event also honored legends like Janet Jackson and Rod Stewart with special awards.
Held at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas, the show aired live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. The AMAs remain the world’s largest fan-voted awards, with winners decided by public votes. This year’s ceremony paid tribute to U.S. troops and veterans, featuring heartfelt performances and moments.
Billie Eilish won in every category she was nominated, sweeping Album of the Year for Hit Me Hard and Soft and Favorite Pop Song for Birds of a Feather. She also claimed Favorite Touring Artist and Favorite Female Pop Artist.
“I’m so grateful to the fans for this incredible honor,” Eilish said in a video message. “This means everything to me.”
Beyoncé made history by winning her first country music awards at the AMAs. She took home Favorite Female Country Artist and Favorite Country Album for Cowboy Carter. Post Malone also scored his first country wins for Favorite Male Country Artist and Favorite Country Song (I Had Some Help with Morgan Wallen).
Eminem returned to the AMAs after 15 years, winning Favorite Male Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Hip-Hop Album for The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). Kendrick Lamar, despite leading with 10 nominations, won only Favorite Hip-Hop Song for Not Like Us.
SZA won two awards: Favorite Female R&B Artist and Favorite R&B Song for Saturn. Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga shared the Collaboration of the Year and Favorite Music Video for Die With a Smile. Mars also won Favorite Male Pop Artist, while Gaga took Favorite Dance/Electronic Artist.
Gracie Abrams was named New Artist of the Year, beating contenders like Benson Boone and Chappell Roan. Twenty One Pilots won Favorite Rock Artist, and Linkin Park claimed Favorite Rock Song for The Emptiness Machine.
Janet Jackson received the Icon Award and performed a medley of her hits, including Someone to Call My Lover and All For You.
“No disrespect, but I don’t consider myself an icon,” Jackson said. “We just loved music, and fame came from hard work.”
Rod Stewart closed the show with Forever Young after accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award from his children.
“I just wanted to sing, not be famous,” Stewart said. “This award is a beautiful surprise.”
Other winners included Bad Bunny (Favorite Male Latin Artist), Becky G (Favorite Female Latin Artist), and RM (Favorite K-Pop Artist). Doechii won Social Song of the Year for Anxiety.
The AMAs featured performances by Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, Lainey Wilson, and Gloria Estefan. Jennifer Lopez opened the show with a high-energy medley of 23 hits.
Taylor Swift, who holds the record for most AMA wins (40), received six nominations but did not win any awards this year. Fans hoped for a Reputation (Taylor’s Version) announcement, but she skipped the event.
