Netflix is pulling back the curtain on WWE’s biggest secrets with WWE Unreal, a new documentary series premiering July 29, 2025. The show dives deep into the drama behind wrestling’s most shocking moments, including John Cena’s villain turn, the creative process led by Triple H, and never-before-seen footage of WWE superstars.
Produced by Omaha Productions, NFL Films, Skydance Sports, and WWE, the five-episode series features Triple H, John Cena, Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, CM Punk, and more. Fans will get an inside look at how WWE’s storylines are crafted, from the writers’ room to live events.
What WWE: Unreal Covers
The documentary explores major WWE moments from the past year, including:
- John Cena’s shocking heel turn at Elimination Chamber 2025, where he betrayed Cody Rhodes and aligned with The Rock.
- The creative disagreements behind The Rock’s sudden disappearance after WrestleMania 41.
- CM Punk’s unfiltered backstage conversations, including a funny moment where he asks Charlotte Flair if she ever “s**t herself” during a match.
- Jey Uso’s Royal Rumble win and Cody Rhodes’ year-long championship reign.
Triple H, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, narrates the series, explaining how WWE balances real-life drama with scripted entertainment.
“From our superstars to our creative and production teams, the audience will see how much goes into bringing WWE to life, far more than people might imagine.” — Triple H
Why John Cena’s Heel Turn Is a Major Focus
John Cena had been a fan favorite for over 20 years before turning villain in early 2025. The documentary reveals how WWE planned this surprise twist, which shocked fans worldwide.
At Elimination Chamber, Cena won a match to challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship—only to attack Rhodes with The Rock’s help. The move set up a WrestleMania 41 showdown, where Cena defeated Rhodes with Travis Scott’s interference.
However, fans criticized the storyline after The Rock vanished from WWE TV. The documentary may finally explain why.
“I’m really hoping it shows Dwayne giving the actual reasons for his involvement on the John Cena heel turn, because I’m f’ing clueless still.” — Steve Harmel (Fan Comment)
