The cast for Netflix’s upcoming crime thriller All the Sinners Bleed is growing. The series has added two new series regulars, Daniel Ezra and Andrea Cortés, who will play key roles in the adaptation of S.A. Cosby’s bestselling novel.
The Newest Faces in Charon County
Daniel Ezra, best known for his leading role in the series All American, has been cast as Marquis Crown. Marquis is the younger brother of the show’s main character, Sheriff Titus Crown. This role marks a notable shift for Ezra from the world of sports drama to a gritty Southern noir.
Andrea Cortés, recognized for her work in Mayans M.C. and Bosch: Legacy, will play Deputy Carla Ortiz. Deputy Ortiz is an officer working within Titus Crown’s precinct, placing her directly in the path of the story’s central investigation.
Andrea Cortés shared her excitement about joining the project, stating:
“As an avid reader who loves crime and mystery novels, I am super excited about being part of All the Sinners Bleed. As an artist, I am looking forward to exploring the various themes the novel touches on and working with this lovely creative team to take those themes from the paper to the screen. My callback with Joe Robert Cole was exhilarating, and I feel lucky to be working with someone who I believe will feel as passionate as I do about bringing the character of Carla Ortiz to life.”
The Story at the Heart of the Series
All the Sinners Bleed follows Titus Crown, played by Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù. Titus is the first Black sheriff in the history of a small Bible Belt county in Virginia. The series finds him leading a harrowing investigation into a serial killer who has been preying on the local Black community for years, all while operating under the belief that they are on a divine mission.
Titus is a complex character, haunted by the untimely death of his devout mother. He must navigate the pressures of his historic role, a community on edge, and his own personal demons to stop the killer.
A Powerhouse Creative Team and Cast
The series is being adapted for television by Joe Robert Cole, the co-writer of Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Cole serves as the showrunner, writer, and an executive producer. He will also direct the first episode and several others.
The project is executive produced by Higher Ground Productions, the company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama, which has a existing creative partnership with Netflix. Other executive producers include Amblin Television and the novel’s author, S.A. Cosby.
They join a cast that already includes several acclaimed actors. John Douglas Thompson (The Gilded Age) plays Albert Crown, Titus’s father. Nicole Beharie (Miss Juneteenth) takes on the role of Darlene, Titus’s supportive girlfriend.
John Douglas Thompson commented on the project, saying:
“I was attracted to All the Sinners Bleed for its undeniable singularity. There is a depth and authenticity to this story that I am excited to explore and bring to life.”
When to Expect the Series
Netflix has ordered a nine-episode season of All the Sinners Bleed. The series was officially announced in May 2025. As production has not yet begun, the series is expected to be released sometime in 2026 or 2027.
