Texas Governor Greg Abbott lost his re-election bid to Democrat Gina Hinojosa on November 3, 2026, a result that ended more than three decades of Republican control over the state’s highest office. Minutes after Abbott conceded, President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social to place the blame squarely on the outgoing governor, calling him a “RINO” โ€” Republican in Name Only. The post drew a sharp reaction from Isaiah Martin, a Democratic content creator and former congressional candidate from Houston, who shared a screenshot of Trump’s message on Threads with a simple caption: “Trump is legit crashing out“.

What Trump Said About Abbott

The president’s post arrived late on November 3, shortly after Abbott’s concession speech. Trump wrote that Abbott would not have lost if he “hadn’t become a RINO in the last six months of his Political Life,” adding that Abbott “went back to his original formula, and it wasn’t pretty”.

The timing stood out. Earlier that same morning, Trump had posted on X to give Abbott his “Complete and Total Endorsement,” calling him “an exceptional Governor and man”. Trump also used the morning post to label Hinojosa “reckless, radical and dangerous”. The reversal within roughly eleven hours became a talking point across social media.

Trump’s broader election-night posts also claimed that Republicans would have won “IN A LANDSLIDE” if he had been on the ballot himself.

Why Isaiah Martin’s Reaction Landed

Martin’s “crashing out” caption resonated because of who he is and what he has been saying about Abbott for years. The 27-year-old Houston native hosts nightly live streams on TikTok, where he has built a following of nearly one million people by debating Republican voters and commentators. A Guardian profile described his style as calm and statistics-driven, with a habit of letting opponents talk themselves into factual corners.

Martin ran for Texas’s 18th Congressional District and became a known figure beyond social media in July 2025, when he was forcibly removed and arrested inside the Texas State Capitol during a redistricting hearing. He had been speaking against maps pushed by Abbott and Trump, and his campaign said he was “dragged to the ground and arrested” for opposing “illegal gerrymandering”. Charges were later dropped.

On his podcast appearance with Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Martin explained that he had been posting countdowns to Abbott’s eventual defeat long before anyone was paying attention. The “crashing out” post was, in that sense, the end of a long-running personal thread.

The Data Center Feud Behind the Blame

Trump’s RINO insult did not come without a policy backdrop. The president and Abbott had publicly disagreed over data centers in Texas.

In August 2026, Abbott ordered a pause on new data center approvals while the state audited the companies’ electricity and water use. Trump called the move “a mistake” and argued that data centers could be “bigger than oil” for Texas. Abbott’s office defended the pause, saying the governor was putting Texans first.

Trump referenced the dispute in a separate Truth Social post on election night, blaming Abbott for saying “no” to data centers in Texas. The comment tied a national political loss to a state-level regulatory decision that had been simmering for months.

A Historic Loss for Abbott

The numbers behind Abbott’s defeat were decisive. The Associated Press reported that Hinojosa won 52.76 percent of the vote to Abbott’s 45.77 percent. Decision Desk HQ had Hinojosa ahead by 7.4 points as of Wednesday morning.

Hinojosa becomes the first Democratic governor of Texas since 1990 and the state’s first Latina governor. Abbott had been seeking a fourth term and would have become the longest-serving chief executive in Texas history.

In his concession speech, Abbott said he had called Hinojosa to congratulate her and promised to assist with the transition. “There are still votes to be counted, but mathematically, we are not gonna be able to win this election,” he said. He thanked his campaign team and said serving as governor for 12 years had been “the greatest honor I have ever had”.

Hinojosa said Texas voters had delivered a “mandate for change” and thanked Abbott for his service.

Abbott’s Silence and the Musk Factor

Abbott has not publicly responded to Trump’s RINO post. A separate development added another layer to the night: Elon Musk reportedly suspended Abbott’s official X account, @GovAbbott, while Abbott’s personal account remained active. Musk had previously donated $5 million to Abbott’s campaign. The suspension was reported by multiple users on X but has not been formally confirmed by the platform.

Musk, who had urged his followers to vote Republican on election day, later deleted that post as Democrats took both chambers of Congress and the Texas governor’s office.
