Fans have been waiting years to see Krysten Ritter put on the leather jacket again and play the super-powered private eye Jessica Jones. When she finally returns in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, she won’t just be the same old bourbon-drinking smartmouth from the Netflix days. According to the show’s boss, a lot has changed in her life over the last seven years. And if you know the Marvel comics, you might already have a good guess about what that big change could be.
The second season of Daredevil: Born Again is set to bring Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones back together. But this time, Jessica might be bringing more than just her attitude and her super strength. Recent comments from showrunner Dario Scardapane suggest that the character has “matured” and “gone through life” since we last saw her. For those who read the source material, the “next chapter” for Jessica Jones usually involves a husband and a baby.
What the Showrunner Actually Said About Jessica Jones
In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, Scardapane opened up about bringing Krysten Ritter back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe fold. He made it clear that the creative team isn’t ignoring the time that has passed. Instead, they are using it to add depth to the character.
“One of the things weโve leaned into is that time has passed between the end of the Netflix show and the beginning of ours,” Scardapane explained. “Weโre acknowledging that. These characters have matured; theyโve gone through life. And Jessica Jones, bourbon-swilling smartass โ whatโs it like for her to mature seven years?”
That is the key question the show wants to answer. What does a private investigator with super strength, trauma, and a bad attitude look like after nearly a decade of living? But Scardapane didn’t stop there. He pointed directly to the comic books as a source of inspiration for where Jessica is headed.
He praised the first season of the Netflix show as some of the best superhero television ever made. But he also made it clear that her story didn’t end there. “When I first came and talked to Marvel I was like, ‘Weโve got to bring Jessica Jones back!’” he told the magazine. “I donโt feel that her story ended. If you read the comic books, youโll know that thereโs a next chapter of her life that I thought was super interesting.”
Looking at the Comics: Meet Mrs. Cage
So, what is this “next chapter” in the comics? For Jessica Jones, the next big step in her life is settling down with Luke Cage. In the Marvel comic book universe, Jessica and Luke are one of the most stable and famous couples. They don’t just date. They get married, and they have a daughter together named Danielle Cage, named after Luke’s best friend, Danny Rand (Iron Fist).
In the comics, Jessica eventually takes the last name Cage. Her full name becomes Jessica Campbell Jones Cage. She balances her work as a private investigator with being a wife and a mother. She even becomes a member of the New Avengers while raising her family. It is a huge evolution for a character who started as a lone wolf haunted by her past.
The Netflix series showed the beginning of their relationship. Fans will remember the intense chemistry between Jessica and Luke in Jessica Jones Season 1. They had a fling, but it ended badly due to the mind-control villain Kilgrave. Later, Luke showed up to support her, but they never got back together as a couple. The shows hinted at it, but they never gave fans the full comic book romance.
How Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Could Handle This
This is where the new season comes in. Since the showrunner is talking about a seven-year time jump, there is plenty of time for Jessica and Luke to have found their way back to each other. Mike Colter, who played Luke Cage, has recently stated that he has been in talks with Marvel about returning. If he does show up in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 or a future project, revealing that they are already married would be a powerful way to reintroduce both characters.
It would also explain why Jessica Jones is willing to team up with Daredevil. Producer Sana Amanat recently explained that Jessica is back for a very personal reason. She isn’t the type to join a team just because someone asks nicely.
“[Jones] isnโt necessarily a team-up kind of person,” Amanat told Empire. “So the reason sheโs back is because it feels like itโs very personal.”
If Jessica is now a wife and possibly a mother, the threat of Wilson Fisk running New York City and hunting vigilantes becomes extremely personal. She isn’t just fighting for Hell’s Kitchen. She is fighting to protect her family. That fits perfectly with the grittier, street-level stakes of the Daredevil world.
What We Know About the New Season So Far
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 picks up six months after the explosive finale of the first season. Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is fully in power as the Mayor of New York. He has declared martial law and is actively hunting down vigilantes. Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is putting together a resistance, and Jessica Jones is one of his key recruits.
The season will also see the return of Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson. Wilson Bethel is back as Bullseye. New cast members include Matthew Lillard.
As for Jessica Jones, Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum has hinted that we might see more of her beyond just this season. He recently suggested that a new Jessica Jones project could be coming “sooner than you think.” Whether that is another solo season or a team-up with Luke Cage remains to be seen.
Release Date and Streaming Details
Fans won’t have to wait too long to see what Jessica Jones has been up to. Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on March 24, 2026.
The show will be available to stream on Disney+ worldwide. This includes viewers in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and India. New episodes are expected to release weekly, continuing the serialized storytelling style that made the Netflix shows so popular. Given the high stakes of the “Devil’s Reign” comic storyline that the show is loosely adapting, this season is shaping up to be an intense ride.
