Rebecca Ferguson has officially entered the world of the Shelby family with the new film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. The Swedish actress, known for her roles in Dune and Mission: Impossible, plays a mysterious medium named Kaulo in the continuation of the hit series. With the film now out and streaming soon, Ferguson is opening up about how she landed the part and whether fans can expect to see her in future projects from this universe.
The actress did not hesitate when Cillian Murphy personally asked her to join the cast. For Ferguson, the choice was simple. She connected deeply with the type of character she was asked to play and the world creator Steven Knight built. Her decision came down to the raw and emotional nature of the story.
“It was a no-brainer. The characters are all guttural and burdened. That’s what I want.”
How Rebecca Ferguson Approached Her Role as Kaulo
When joining a show with a dedicated fan base, Ferguson paid close attention to the details, especially her character’s voice. She admitted that trying to copy the famous Birmingham accent used by the Shelby family was not going to happen. Instead, she worked on a Romani accent for her character, Kaulo, to make sure she did not take away from the film’s quality.
“There was absolutely no chance I could do a Brummie accent. I would ruin the film,” she said.
Ferguson also discussed how she prepared for some of the more personal scenes between Kaulo and Cillian Murphy’s character, Tommy Shelby. She wanted to make sure both actors felt comfortable with the work. She explained that she took an unusual step before filming started.
“I had called Cillian and asked him how he wanted to work. It sounds so silly, but I said, ‘I’ve studied your sex scenes…’ And he went, ‘That’s really weird and awkward.’ And I went, ‘I know, but bear with me. This is not just a regular sex scene. This is a moment of release. This is a moment of intimacy, there’s magic.’”
The actress noted that the way they handled intimacy on set was done with clear communication. While she respects the role of intimacy coordinators, she prefers to establish boundaries directly with her co-stars so the process feels more natural.
Ferguson’s Thoughts on Joining the Peaky Blinders Legacy
The actress acknowledged the weight of stepping into such a well-known show. Peaky Blinders ran for six seasons and built a massive global audience. Ferguson admitted that thinking about the scale of the franchise can be overwhelming. She tries to focus on the work rather than the pressure of the fan expectations.
“I try and stay away from thinking about all the people who [love it], because that’s just going to freak me out. It’s enough to know that once Cillian is on a horse, the paparazzi are taking pictures. You understand how big it is.”
She also made sure to honor the history of the show, specifically the late Helen McCrory, who played the beloved Polly Gray. Ferguson mentioned she was careful to respect the characters that came before her and pay tribute to the legacy left by the original cast.

Will Rebecca Ferguson Return to Peaky Blinders
Currently, Ferguson is focused on Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man as a complete story. The film is designed as a continuation of the TV series, wrapping up loose ends for Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby. While the actress has not closed the door on returning, she has not confirmed any plans to appear in further installments.
For now, her career is busier than ever. 2026 is a packed year for Ferguson. She has roles in Amazon’s sci-fi thriller Mercy, the family film The Magic Faraway Tree, the upcoming Dune 3, and a new season of her Apple TV+ series Silo.
When asked about her career goals, Ferguson made it clear she is not slowing down. She looks up to actors who take on bold and unexpected roles. She wants to continue choosing projects that challenge her and her audience.
“I love to be challenged by stories that start somewhere, confuse you and take you somewhere else. I want my Anatomy of a Fall. I look at Sandra Hüller and think, ‘F hell, you nailed it, babes.’ That’s where I want to go. That’s where I am going.”
