The Los Angeles Waves are back in action. Netflix has released the official trailer for Season 2 of its hit comedy series Running Point, giving fans a look at what happens next for Kate Hudson‘s character, Isla Gordon. The show returns on April 23, 2026, with new episodes that bring more family conflict, high-stakes business decisions, and a list of notable guest stars.

The first season introduced viewers to Isla, who stepped in as president of her family’s basketball franchise after her brother Cam’s public scandal. Season 2 picks up with Isla no longer seen as a temporary fill-in. She now faces the challenge of proving she belongs in the role while her brother works to take it back.

Cam’s Return Creates New Problems for Isla

The trailer shows Justin Theroux’s character, Cam, quietly planning his return to power. He watches Isla’s every move, looking for any mistake he can use against her. This family power struggle sits at the center of the new season.

The official description from Netflix explains the situation clearly: Isla is determined to show she is not just keeping the seat warm for her brother. But Cam is working behind the scenes to reclaim his position. Every wrong step becomes a weapon in his hands.

The show’s creators, Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, continue to mix workplace comedy with family drama. The new season promises more pressure on Isla as she handles running a professional sports team and managing her personal life at the same time.

Octavia Spencer, Lisa Rinna and Nicole Richie Join the Cast

The Season 2 trailer also shows off a strong list of new guest stars joining the show. Octavia Spencer makes an appearance, along with Lisa Rinna (playing herself), Nicole Richie, and Scott Speedman. Co-creator Ike Barinholtz also appears as a family member named Bennie.

The returning cast includes many familiar faces. Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Brenda Song, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, Toby Sandeman, and Uche Agada are all back. Jay Ellis and Max Greenfield also return as romantic interests for Isla’s character. Ray Romano joins the recurring cast as the Waves’ new head coach.

Other new recurring cast members for Season 2 include Robert Townsend, Ken Marino, Tommy Dewey, Richa Moorjani, Jake Picking, and Blake Anderson.

Release Details for Global Audiences

Running Point Season 2 will be available for streaming worldwide on Netflix starting April 23, 2026. The release follows the standard Netflix format, with all episodes arriving on the same day for viewers in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other regions.

The show earned strong numbers in its first season. It spent five weeks on Netflix’s Global English Top 10 TV list and reached the Top 10 in 83 countries. Season 1 currently holds a Certified Fresh score of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Real-Life Inspiration Behind the Show

The series takes inspiration from the real story of Jeanie Buss, president and owner of the Los Angeles Lakers. Buss serves as an executive producer on the show alongside Linda Rambis. Their involvement brings authentic details about running a professional basketball franchise.

The show is produced by Kaling International in association with Warner Bros. Television. Howard Klein also serves as an executive producer. The creative team behind the series includes writers and producers who worked on popular comedies like The Office and The Mindy Project.
