The penultimate episode of Agent Kim Reactivated delivered one of the most intense installments of the season as Manager Kim and his team fought their way through enemy territory in a desperate race against time. Episode 9, which aired on July 24, 2026, on SBS and is available for streaming on Netflix, set the stage for the series finale with a high-stakes extraction mission, a hostage crisis, and a brutal confrontation that left viewers on the edge of their seats.

The K-drama thriller follows So Ji-sub as Manager Kim, a seemingly ordinary bank employee and single father who reveals his past as a highly trained black-ops agent after his daughter Min-ji gets kidnapped. Alongside his former allies Jin-cheol (Yoon Kyung-ho) and Han-su (Choi Dae-hoon), Kim has spent the season battling Ju Kang-chan (Joo Sang-wook), the wealthy and vengeful owner of Juhjak Constructions. Episode 9 pushes this conflict to its breaking point as Kim faces his most dangerous mission yet.

Kim’s Mission Fails as Political Tensions Rise

Episode 9 picks up immediately after the events of the previous chapter. Mr. Ju surprisingly decides to give his assistant another opportunity instead of punishing him for earlier failures. A flashback reveals that Ju has been working behind the scenes to create even more chaos. The political situation escalates when the North Korean representative discovers that Manager Kim and Ri Eung-yeong are involved in inter-Korean peace talks. Furious over their presence, the representative immediately halts the negotiations, creating a fresh political crisis.

In the present timeline, Mole Cricket and his team successfully intercept Manager Kim, Jin-cheol, and Han-su at the trailer cabin. During the operation, Kim and Ri Eung-yeong are separated from the others and handed over to North Korean authorities. A short flashback explains the real reason behind Ri’s capture: the Special Missions Directorate (SMD) chief desperately wants classified information related to ballistic missiles, believing Ri possesses valuable intelligence.

Kim Escapes and Teams Up With His Allies

Han-su and Jin-cheol debate whether chasing after Kim is the right move. While searching the area, they discover Kim’s phone left behind and realise that he intentionally took Han-su’s phone instead, leaving a trail for them to follow. Kim and Ri’s vehicles diverge at a forked road. While Ri is taken in a different direction, Kim is delivered to Kang-chan’s house.

Kang-chan believes he is finally controlling the situation, but Manager Kim fights back. Han-su and Jin-cheol arrive at the scene and take out Kang-chan’s men. Desperate to locate Ri Eung-yeong, Kim demands answers. Realising he has little choice, Mr. Ju offers a bargain: if Kim allows him to leave safely, he promises to lead him directly to Ri.

The Ten-Minute Extraction Mission

The centrepiece of Episode 9 is a daring ten-minute extraction operation to snatch General Ri from captivity. The plan involves smuggling Ri out hidden inside a laundry truck. Kim will handle Ri while the others provide a distraction. The laundromat owner takes responsibility for the trucks. The team has a short window: the truck comes in and leaves within ten minutes.

At nightfall, Kim and the others gear up for the extraction. They enter through a tunnel, with Codename 66 keeping a watchful eye on them. In the chairman’s office, Kim, Han-su, and Sang-a (Son Na-eun) devise the plan. Jin-cheol orders room service, and he and Sang-a dress as attendants. Han-su hides under the service trolley, and the three exit the room.

Han-su, Sang-a, and Jin-cheol storm the surveillance room and locate Ri on the fifth floor suite. Kim sneaks into the room and overhears the North Korean delegate speaking to Ri about eight million dollars in funds for operations against South Korea, stored as chips in a private safe at Fanta Casino in Macau. The delegate demands the access card to the safe and promises to let Ri live. Ri says he hid the card in China instead, and Kim knocks the delegate down.

Min-ji Waits as the Stakes Rise

Meanwhile, Min-ji waits in the safe room, bored, tired, and worried. Her safety, once the central focus of the series, has shifted to become one facet of a wider espionage plot. By the end of Episode 9, she is far from the only child with a special agent dad whose life is on the line.

Sang-a and the laundromat owner remain near the hotel, keeping a watchful eye on the North Korean team’s movements. They update Kim about the situation while Han-su asks Mr. Ju about an easy way in. Ju explains there is a tunnel leading to the chairman’s office with no CCTV and hands over his entry card. However, the North Korean delegates have disabled CCTV in the hotel and are running their own surveillance.

Viewership Soars to 21.5 Percent

Episode 9 of Agent Kim Reactivated delivered another commanding performance, recording a nationwide viewership rating of 21.5 percent, according to Nielsen Korea. The figure keeps the drama firmly above the 20 percent mark for a sixth straight episode. The broadcast topped its time slot and ranked as the #1 most-watched program across the entire week. It posted 21.5 percent nationwide and 21.3 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area, with peak real-time viewership reaching 23.2 percent. The episode also averaged 5.8 percent among viewers aged 20 to 49, peaking at 6.6 percent.

The momentum heading into the finale is credited to Episode 9’s high-voltage setup, featuring an intense hostage standoff and a high-octane rescue operation involving So Ji-sub, Choi Dae-hoon, and Yoon Kyung-ho.

The Finale Preview: A Cruel Choice

The preview for the series finale shows Joo Kang-chan kidnapping Han-su’s son Tae-hoon and Jin-cheol’s daughter Da-bin, then forcing the three fathers into a cage. He issues a chilling condition: “If 66 dies, the children live”. With their children held hostage, Han-su and Jin-cheol face a brutal test of loyalty. The trailer also depicts Agent Kim urging Han-su to take care of Min-ji, fueling fears that the finale may ask him to pay the ultimate price.

The extended finale airs on July 25 at 9:45 p.m. KST, five minutes earlier than the show’s usual broadcast time. After a week of record-setting viewership and relentless escalation, viewers will learn whether friendship and fatherhood can hold under the pressure of a mission that offers only impossible outcomes.
