The first trailer for ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 arrived at D23 on August 15, 2026, and it brings serious news for the galaxy. Grand Admiral Thrawn is back in the main Star Wars galaxy and he has declared war on the New Republic. The teaser shows Rosario Dawson returning as Ahsoka Tano, Hayden Christensen back as Anakin Skywalker, and Lars Mikkelsen reprising his role as Thrawn. The series will premiere on Disney+ on January 20, 2027.
Thrawn Returns to Declare War on the New Republic
The trailer opens with Anakin asking Ahsoka who is troubling her. Within 23 seconds, Thrawn appears on screen and declares his return to the “glorious Empire”. He says he took an oath to protect it and soon after declares war on the Rebel Alliance. This marks the first time viewers see Thrawn actively starting a full-scale conflict in live-action.
The season picks up right where Season 1 ended. Ahsoka and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) remain stranded on the distant planet Peridea. They must find a way back home while facing new dangers. Meanwhile, Thrawn has made it back to the main galaxy with one goal: rebuild the Empire and destroy the New Republic.
Rosario Dawson spoke about the scale of the new season. She said Season 2 is bigger and has many risky moments with bigger battles. She added that Thrawn will be a big challenge for her character and the entire galaxy.
Two Galaxies, Two Fronts in the Coming War
The trailer reveals two separate storylines. One takes place in the main Star Wars galaxy, where Thrawn leads the Imperial Remnant against the New Republic. The other follows Ahsoka and Sabine on Peridea, where they face new problems in a mysterious and dangerous world.
Eman Esfandi returns as Ezra Bridger, who escaped Peridea with Thrawn at the end of Season 1. The trailer shows Ezra back with Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and the rest of his Rebels family, ready to fight. Esfandi confirmed that Ezra is fighting for the New Republic alongside his old crew.
The conflict spans across two galaxies. Space battles, lightsaber duels, and Nightsister magic all appear in the footage. The trailer also shows quick flashes of action, including Huyang wielding multiple lightsabers like General Grievous in a fight with Shin Hati.
Anakin Skywalker Returns as Force Ghost and in Flashbacks
Hayden Christensen returns as Anakin Skywalker in two forms. The trailer shows him as a Force ghost guiding Ahsoka in the present. It also includes snowy Clone Wars-era flashbacks where a young Ahsoka trains with her former master.
Christensen shared what fans can expect from Anakin’s role. He said Anakin will continue to guide Ahsoka while pushing her to find the answer to an important question about her place as a Jedi. The trailer ends with Anakin telling Ahsoka that this is her trial and it is time for her to decide whether she is truly a Jedi or not.
This question runs throughout the trailer. Ahsoka remembers how she walked away from the Jedi Order a long time ago. Now she must face that choice again while dealing with Thrawn’s war and the dangers on Peridea.
Rory McCann Takes Over as Baylan Skoll
The role of Baylan Skoll has been recast. Rory McCann, known for his work on Game of Thrones, steps in for the late Ray Stevenson, who passed away in 2023. Stevenson played the character in Season 1. McCann now takes over as the former Jedi who remains on Peridea with his apprentice Shin Hati.
The trailer shows Baylan and Shin exploring the ancient mythos of the Force. They are connected to the Mortis gods, powerful Force beings introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Season 1 ended with Baylan discovering giant statues of these gods on Peridea. Season 2 will continue that story.

The main cast returns for the new season. Rosario Dawson leads as Ahsoka Tano. Natasha Liu Bordizzo returns as Sabine Wren, Ahsoka’s Jedi apprentice. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is back as Hera Syndulla.
