AMC Networks has ordered a second season of its upcoming Silicon Valley drama The Audacity before the first season has even aired. The renewal comes days before the show’s world premiere at the South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas . The eight-episode first season is scheduled to debut on April 12 on AMC and AMC+ .
A Vote of Confidence From Network Leadership
The early pickup signals strong belief in the series from creator Jonathan Glatzer and the cast led by Billy Magnussen and Zach Galifianakis . Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Networks and president of AMC Studios, praised Glatzer’s work in a statement announcing the renewal.
“Jonathan is one of the smartest, most talented, insightful and human showrunners we’ve ever worked with,” McDermott said . “He has created a series that is smart, witty and nuanced, with dynamic characters, and something to say about our world, and this particular world that has such a huge impact on our culture, our economy, and the very lives we are all living.” He added that season one is “fantastic” and that season two “can’t come soon enough” .
Glatzer expressed gratitude for the network’s support. “From the start, The Audacity exists because Kristin Dolan, Dan McDermott, and AMC Networks decided that ‘playing it safe’ is vastly overrated,” the creator said . He noted that the network enabled the cast and creative team to dive into “beautifully flawed characters” set against the backdrop of Silicon Valley. Glatzer called himself “ecstatic” as both the creator and “a fan of original and slightly dangerous stories” .
What ‘The Audacity’ Is About
The series marks Glatzer’s first original creation, though he has extensive writing and producing experience on acclaimed shows including Succession, Better Call Saul, and Bad Sisters . The Audacity is set inside the high-stakes bubble of Silicon Valley and takes on what the network describes as “the warped dreams, outsized egos, and ethical lapses of the self-styled inventors of the future” .
The story follows Duncan Park, an ambitious data-mining CEO played by Billy Magnussen, who strives to turn insight and influence into profit and power . The world around him includes jaded billionaires, psychiatrist-gurus, bio-hacked tech bros, artificial intelligence labs, and disillusioned teens being optimized in elite private schools. The darkly comedic drama confronts questions about reality, privacy, and the delusions fueling modern life .
Former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo praised the show’s realistic portrayal of Silicon Valley during a recent screening in San Francisco .
Full Cast and Creative Team
The ensemble cast brings together a mix of comedy and drama veterans. Alongside Magnussen as Duncan Park, Sarah Goldberg stars as Dr. JoAnne Felder, a psychiatrist-guru character . Zach Galifianakis plays Carl Bardolph, Lucy Punch appears as Lili Park-Hoffsteader, and Simon Helberg takes on the role of Martin Phister.
Rob Corddry joins as Tom Ruffage, Meaghan Rath plays Anushka Bhattachera-Phister, and Paul Adelstein appears as Dr. Gary Felder . Younger cast members include Everett Blunck as Orson Stern, Thailey Roberge as Tess Phister, and Ava Marie Telek as Jamison Park-Hoffsteader. Randall Park guest stars as Gabe, described as the qualm-free chief financial officer of a data mining operation .
Gina Mingacci, whose credits include Killing Eve, serves as executive producer alongside Glatzer . The directing team includes Lucy Forbes, who helmed the first two episodes. Forbes has previously directed This Is Going to Hurt and the Netflix series Eric starring Benedict Cumberbatch . Dan Sackheim directs episodes three and four, Dan Longino takes episodes five and six, and Alex Buono directs the final two episodes of the first season .
Premiere Dates and Festival Launch
The Audacity will have its world premiere at the SXSW film and television festival on March 14 . The event will feature a screening of the first two episodes followed by a panel discussion with Glatzer, Mingacci, Forbes, and cast members including Magnussen, Punch, Helberg, Corddry, Rath, and Adelstein. Veteran technology journalist Kara Swisher is set to moderate the conversation .
The official television debut follows on Sunday, April 12 at 9 pm Eastern and Pacific time on AMC and AMC+ . New episodes will roll out weekly on Sundays. International viewers will see the show shortly after the US debut. AMC+ Spain confirmed the series will arrive there on Monday, April 13, one day after the US premiere .
Second Season Plans
The early renewal gives the creative team a head start on producing more episodes. Like the first season, season two will consist of eight episodes . Preliminary casting for the new season is already underway, allowing production to move forward quickly once the first season wraps .
The pickup represents a strategic move for AMC as the network seeks to reclaim its position in the prestige drama space. AMC built its reputation with landmark series including Mad Men and Breaking Bad, both multiple winners of the outstanding drama series Emmy Award . The network later extended its streak with Better Call Saul and critically praised but lower-profile shows like Halt and Catch Fire. In recent years, AMC has focused heavily on intellectual property-based genre franchises including The Walking Dead universe and adaptations of Anne Rice’s works .
Competing for top-tier talent has become more difficult as streaming services with larger budgets pursue the same writers and producers. AMC heavily pursued Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan’s latest series, Pluribus, but lost the bidding war to Apple TV . With The Audacity, the network is betting on original storytelling and strong creative voices to attract viewers.
The show is also beating similar projects to air. It stands as the first of three Silicon Valley-set drama projects announced in 2024 to reach the screen . Robert and Michelle King’s legal drama Cupertino is scheduled for the 2026-27 broadcast season. Netflix’s corporate thriller Thumblite has faced delays after multiple showrunner departures.

What to Expect
Viewers can expect a sharp, character-driven look at tech culture wrapped in dark comedic tones. Glatzer described the show as “a wholly original satire” that dives into how technology shapes work, relationships, and daily life . The series promises to explore the human cost of innovation and the personalities driving an industry that affects nearly every aspect of modern existence.
The early season two renewal allows fans to invest in the story knowing more is already on the way. For AMC, the pickup represents a bet that The Audacity can become the kind of water-cooler drama that defined the network’s golden era.
