General Hospital fans have reason to celebrate this week. Finola Hughes is back as Anna Devane on the Wednesday, June 24 episode. Anna has been away from Port Charles for months after a terrible ordeal. She was kidnapped, drugged, and held captive by Cullum and Sidwell. The experience left her so broken that she needed psychiatric treatment in France.
Her return has been teased for weeks. Now viewers will finally see what Anna has been going through. She is set to meet with her doctor on Wednesday’s episode. The question is whether she will plot her way out of the facility or take a more aggressive approach. Head writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten told Soap Opera Digest that Anna “has the goods on Cassius but struggles to get the word out while institutionalized in France.” The writers also mentioned that viewers will begin to see “the long-term effects of her imprisonment and gaslighting at Cullum’s hands.” They added that fans can expect “echoes of Anna’s earliest incarnation as she returns to Port Charles with deadly intentions.”
Anna Returns With a Different Edge
Anna is not coming back as the same person who left. Her time in captivity has changed her. She has been gaslit and manipulated. Now she is returning with a mission. The character is described as having “deadly intentions.” This suggests a much darker and more determined version of Anna than fans are used to seeing.
Her return will also have big implications for other characters. Danny, Britt, and Jason will all be affected by her presence. She will also pose tough questions to Britt. Her comeback means Rocco is not yet out of danger for shooting Cullum. Anna’s return to Port Charles will shake up several storylines.
What Happened to Anna?
Anna’s troubles started when Cullum kidnapped her. He wanted to stop her from interfering with his fusion project with Sidwell. The plan was originally created by Cesar Faison. Cullum gave Anna hallucinogenic drugs. She ended up hospitalized in France. She tried to escape but was recaptured and put in a higher-security facility. Willow helped Anna move to a less restrictive place. But her recovery has been a long and difficult road.
Gio and Emma Hit the Pool
The Metro Court pool is also making a return as a key location this week. Gio (Giovanni Mazza) and Emma (Braedyn Bruner) will enjoy a day at the pool on Wednesday. The pool has been the site of many memorable General Hospital moments over the years.
In 2022, Cody Bell parachuted into the pool and landed on Britt Westbourne. That introduced Cody to Port Charles. In 2023, Ned took a tumble into the pool and woke up believing he was Eddie Maine, his rock star persona from the 1990s. Last year, Kristina tripped over a duffel bag in Ava’s room and fell out the window into the pool while nine months pregnant. Tragically, she lost the baby.
This year, Ric (Rick Hearst) and Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) plan to throw a book launch party for Molly at the pool. Cody will be there as Molly’s boyfriend and moral support. Cody has already mentioned seeing sparks between Ric and Alexis, which horrified Molly.

Anna is not the only major character coming back. Steve Burton will return as Jason Morgan on July 13. The date also marks the show’s 16,000th episode. Jason has been away since March 2026. Burton took a temporary hiatus to spend time with family.
The head writers have teased that Jason returns as a changed man. His imprisonment abroad altered his outlook. His return will have major repercussions for Sonny, Danny, Britt, Anna, and the Quartermaines.
