Both subtitled and English-dubbed versions were shown. The screenings also included exclusive behind-the-scenes content featuring creator Tite Kubo and directors Tomohisa Taguchi and Hikaru Murata.

A special advance screening of the first three episodes also took place in Japan on June 21, 2026, with a stage greeting from the cast.

How Many Episodes Will The Calamity Have?

The Calamity is expected to have around 12 to 13 episodes. This will complete the entire Thousand-Year Blood War saga, which will have over 50 episodes in total. Each episode runs for about 24 minutes.

The Story So Far

The Calamity adapts the final chapters of Tite Kubo’s original manga, covering roughly chapters 657 through 686. The story picks up at a critical moment. Yhwach, the Quincy King, has broken through the Royal Palace and shattered Squad Zero’s powerful Bankai. He has entered the Reio Greater Palace, the home of the Soul King.

Ichibe Hyosube, the leader of Squad Zero, asks Ichigo Kurosaki and his allies to protect the Soul King. However, Yhwach tricks Ichigo into striking down the Soul King with his own sword. The death of the Soul King causes the Three Worlds to start collapsing. Distortions and signs of destruction appear everywhere.

The Thirteen Court Guard Squads and the surviving Quincies join forces to head for the Royal Palace. But the palace has been taken over by the Wandenreich and transformed into the Wahr Welt. The Royal Guard waits inside.

Fierce battles break out throughout the Wahr Welt. Ichigo also confronts Uryu Ishida to learn his true intentions. Meanwhile, Yhwach has awakened his full power, The Almighty. The final battle for the survival of the Three Worlds is about to begin.

Key Staff and Production

Pierrot Films (formerly Studio Pierrot) returns to produce the final season. The main staff includes:

  • Chief Series Director: Tomohisa Taguchi
  • Series Director: Hikaru Murata
  • Character Design: Masashi Kudo
  • Music: Shiro Sagisu

Tite Kubo, the creator of Bleach, continues to oversee the anime’s final arc. His involvement in this new anime has been much greater than in the original 2004 series. Kubo has been checking the settings, graphics, and storyboards for the final episodes.

Viz Media’s General Manager Brian Ige spoke about the franchise’s legacy.

“Bleach helped define modern anime for an entire generation of fans and creators, and its impact continues to be felt around the world today.”

He also called The Calamity “a pivotal moment in the final arc of this extraordinary story”.

Theme Songs

The opening theme for The Calamity is “I-BULL” by jo0ji. The ending theme is “Rasen” by 9Lana. Creator Tite Kubo personally selected all the theme songs for the Thousand-Year Blood War anime.

“For Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, I personally listened to and selected all the theme songs from the demo stage onward.”

Kubo also shared his hope that viewers would discover new artists through the series.

What to Expect in the Final Season

The Calamity will adapt the final battles from the manga. The season will cover the last fight between Ichigo Kurosaki and Yhwach. Other characters will also have their final battles against the Quincies.

The subtitle “The Calamity” hints at the catastrophic events that will unfold as Yhwach activates his ultimate power. The season will show major transformations and abilities that fans have wanted to see animated for a very long time.

The original Bleach anime ended in 2012 with episode 366, leaving the Thousand-Year Blood War arc completely unadapted. For years, fans assumed they would never see this story animated. Now, after a decade of waiting, the story is finally reaching its conclusion.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity premieres on July 25, 2026, streaming on Hulu in the US and Disney+ internationally. The final season brings the epic saga of Ichigo Kurosaki to a close after more than two decades.
