The ongoing drama between Candace Owens and Erika Kirk has taken a new turn. The political commentator is now calling attention to a resignation letter from a Turning Point USA campus leader. Owens wants Vice President JD Vance to see the document, which she describes as “classy and well-stated.”

The letter comes from Caroline Mattox, the president of the TPUSA chapter at the University of Georgia. Her resignation follows the controversy surrounding Erika Kirk’s last-minute cancellation of an April 14 event where she was scheduled to appear with Vance.

Candace Owens Shares Resignation Letter and Calls for Vance to See It

On April 23, Candace Owens shared a picture of Caroline Mattox’s resignation letter on social media. Mattox stepped down from her position as the Turning Point Chapter President for the University of Georgia. The letter directly mentions the April 14 event and the fallout from Erika Kirk’s absence.

“Turning Point USA was founded to promote truth, fight for conservative values, encourage independent thought, and defend free speech. However, it became abundantly clear to me following our event on April 14th that TPUSA’s mission and purpose have been lost along the way.” – Caroline Mattox’s resignation letter

Mattox wrote that since Charlie Kirk’s death, the values and direction of TPUSA have completely changed. She saw firsthand what she believes is the organization’s real direction following Charlie’s passing. She expressed serious concerns about the group’s messaging and current path.

The letter ends with a simple statement: “In light of this, I am resigning from my position as president of the Turning Point USA chapter at the University of Georgia.”

Owens backed Mattox fully in her post. She said the chapter president deserves an apology from TPUSA’s executive team, though she doubts one will come. She then wrote that people can at least share the letter and hope that JD Vance sees it. “Classy and well-stated,” Owens said about the resignation letter.

The Event That Started Everything

The trouble began on April 14 at the University of Georgia. Erika Kirk, who took over TPUSA after her husband Charlie Kirk’s assassination in September 2025, was supposed to appear on stage with Vice President JD Vance.

But she did not show up.

Hours before the event, Kirk posted on X that she was canceling. She wrote, “I was so looking forward to tonight’s event at the @universityofga with our Vice President @JDVance, but after all our family has been through, I take my security team’s recommendations extremely seriously.”

Andrew Kolvet, a TPUSA spokesperson, took her place on stage. He told the crowd that Kirk had received “some very serious threats.” Vance supported her decision. He said, “Let’s let Erika do what she needs to do for herself and her family.”

But the event had a major problem. The venue could hold 8,500 people, but only about 1,000 showed up. Videos and photos of empty seats spread quickly online.

Owens Rejects Security Threat Claims

Candace Owens did not believe the security explanation. She started questioning Kirk right away. On April 14, Owens wrote on X, “Stop. This is exhausting. You pulled out because of bad ticket sales.”

She kept pushing back. On April 22, Owens called the security story “pure fiction.” She stated that Kirk’s safety was “NEVER” an issue. Owens wrote that the TPUSA team knew weeks before the event that there was very little interest. She said low ticket sales and lack of public interest were the real reasons Kirk stayed away.

“In short, the excuse peddled by their Public Relations team was pure fiction (as we all suspected). No, the Left was NOT buying up tons of reservations, as told by Andrew Kolvet. To the contrary, the team knew weeks before that there was little interest in the event for a variety of reasons, and Erika’s safety was NEVER an issue.” – Candace Owens

Owens also pointed out a key detail. She said Kirk was already in Georgia when she canceled. The event had Secret Service protection because Vance was there. Owens argued that if there was a real threat, the Vice President would not have continued with the event.

She also claimed the questions asked at the event were faked. Owens added that both the Secret Service and the UGA Chapter President are now speaking up about what she calls TPUSA’s lies.

Owens Remembers Charlie Kirk’s Original Vision

Candace Owens worked closely with Charlie Kirk in the early days of TPUSA. She used his memory to make her point. Owens wrote that she is heartbroken to see what the organization has become. She called it “fully elitist” and said it represents everything Charlie resented.

“Do you know how many small, half-filled events me and Charlie did early on? Charlie would have been on that stage. It wasn’t about the crowd size to him.” – Candace Owens

This personal connection gives Owens’ criticism extra weight. She is not an outsider attacking the group. She is a former insider who helped build TPUSA into what it is today.

Security Versus Low Turnout

The truth about what happened on April 14 depends on who you ask.

TPUSA’s version: Erika Kirk received serious threats. Her security team advised her not to appear. JD Vance and Andrew Kolvet both supported this explanation publicly. Vance told the crowd that Kirk was genuinely worried. He criticized people who attack her, calling their behavior “disgraceful.”

Owens’ version: Kirk pulled out because of low ticket sales and poor public interest. The security story was made up by her public relations team. The Secret Service found no credible threats to the venue. Kirk was already in Georgia on a secure path cleared by federal agents.

Secret Service sources told CBS News that “no credible threats” were found before Kirk’s withdrawal. The location was “secure” with no known threats to the protectee.

Caroline Mattox’s resignation letter supports Owens’ view. The chapter president wrote that TPUSA’s mission has been lost. She saw the organization’s true direction after Charlie’s passing. Her decision to quit shows how deep the internal problems run.

Fan and Public Reactions

The public has taken sides in this fight. Some people support Candace Owens for speaking out. Others believe she is going too far against a widow.

One user responded to Owens by saying, “You’ve drug Charlie’s legacy for 7 months. You’ve lied about his wife. You are the reason her life is in danger. Enough.”

Another person pushed back, asking, “Who is she safer with, her security detail that got her husband killed, or the United States Secret Service currently at the event?”

A third commenter told Owens, “You are truly filled with evil and rage… The Bible talks about taking care of widows, but you’re nonstop obsessed with trying to destroy her.”

Others agree with Owens. They point to the empty arena as proof that low turnout was the real issue. The debate continues to rage on social media.

The Bigger Picture

This fight is not just about one canceled event. It shows the battle for the soul of Turning Point USA after Charlie Kirk’s death. Erika Kirk now leads the organization. But some people, including Candace Owens, do not accept her leadership.

Owens has made multiple videos attacking Kirk. Her series called “Bride of Charlie” goes deep into Kirk’s personal life and past. She has questioned how Kirk became CEO and whether she is the right person to lead TPUSA.

The resignation of Caroline Mattox is a small but important event in this larger war. A local chapter president quit because she no longer believes in the group’s direction. Candace Owens wants JD Vance to see that. She wants the Vice President to understand what is really happening inside TPUSA.

For now, Erika Kirk remains the CEO of Turning Point USA. JD Vance has not commented on Mattox’s resignation letter. But Candace Owens is making sure the story does not quietly go away.
