What Happened in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 1

Season 1 followed David Martinez, a gifted student at Arasaka Academy whose life collapsed after his mother Gloria was killed in gang crossfire . Left with nothing but a stolen military-grade implant, David joined a crew of mercenaries led by Maine and threw himself into the edgerunner life .

David Martinez: From Street Kid to Night City Legend

David’s arc was a slow burn toward self-destruction. He took on more chrome than his body could handle, chasing the idea that he had to become something bigger than the life the city had given him . After Maine succumbed to cyberpsychosis and died, David took over the crew and became one of Night City’s youngest legends within a year . His refusal to stop augmenting himself pushed him to the edge, and he ultimately sacrificed his life to buy time for Lucy to escape .

Lucy: The Netrunner Who Dreamed of the Moon

Lucyna Kushinada was a netrunner in Maine’s crew who saw Night City as a prison . Her one goal was to leave it all behind and go to the Moon. She and David fell in love, but her dream always carried a quiet loneliness—she wanted to escape, even if it meant being alone . Lucy survived the final battle, and she did make it to the Moon. She walked the lunar surface alone, imagining David beside her, knowing he was gone .

Maine and Dorio: The Crew That Fell Apart

Maine was the leader of the edgerunner crew, a father figure to David and a man who had already pushed his body past its limits when the series began. His descent into cyberpsychosis played out across the back half of the season, culminating in his death during a job gone wrong . Dorio, his partner and the crew’s steady hand, died alongside him. Their deaths marked the point where the original crew began to disintegrate.

Rebecca and Kiwi: Loyalty and Betrayal

Rebecca was the crew’s youngest and most fiercely loyal member, a fan favorite whose blunt humor and willingness to fight for David never wavered . She died during the final assault on Arasaka Tower, killed by Adam Smasher . Kiwi, the crew’s senior netrunner, took a different path. Her choices in the finale were driven by self-preservation, and she was ultimately killed by Faraday, the fixer who had been manipulating the crew from behind the scenes.
