DAY6 member Young K has achieved a remarkable career milestone with his second full-length solo album. His new release “YOUNGEST” sold over 164,000 copies in its first week, more than quadrupling the sales record he set with his debut solo album in 2023.

The album dropped on July 27, 2026, and made an immediate impact. By the end of its first day alone, “YOUNGEST” had already crossed 50,000 sales. That single-day figure surpassed the total first-week sales of his previous album “Letters with notes,” which sold 40,189 copies during its debut week in September 2023.

According to Hanteo Chart, the official music sales tracker, “YOUNGEST” sold 164,443 copies during the tracking period from July 27 to August 2. This new number is more than four times higher than his previous best, showing clear growth in his solo fanbase and overall popularity.

Album Tops Both Album and World Charts

The success of “YOUNGEST” goes beyond just sales numbers. Young K secured the number one spot on Hanteo Chart’s weekly album chart for the July 27 to August 2 period. The album also ranked first on the weekly world chart, which measures global performance across albums, streams, certifications, social media, and media coverage.

On the album chart, “YOUNGEST” recorded an album index of 222,497.39 points, which translates to the 164,443 copies sold. The world chart saw Young K earn 13,523.03 points, placing him ahead of other major K-pop acts.

These chart achievements highlight the strong response from both domestic and international listeners. The tracking period covered the first seven days after release, and the numbers confirm that fans showed up in large numbers to support the album.

15 Songs That Show His Musical Identity

“YOUNGEST” is not a typical K-pop album. It contains 15 tracks and runs for about 44 minutes. This is longer than the usual full-length album, which normally has 10 to 12 songs. Young K made a deliberate choice to include more music.

In a behind-the-scenes video posted on DAY6’s official YouTube channel, he explained the thinking behind the album title and tracklist.

“I thought about what I like and what kind of person I am now. A full-length album usually has 10 to 12 songs, but I think adding something extra is more like Young K. I wanted it to contain different textures that might make people say, ‘He is changing again?’ or ‘He does this kind of music too?’”

The album title “YOUNGEST” combines his stage name with the English suffix “-est.” This represents both the music that is most characteristic of him and who he is at the youngest point of his life.

Young K wrote and composed all 15 songs himself. The album moves across multiple genres including rock, pop, ballad, house, country, and jazz. This variety gives listeners a full picture of his abilities as a singer-songwriter.

The title track is called “Shut The Door.” It deals with exhaustion toward the world and the pain of being hurt by someone once trusted. Instead of expressing those feelings through anger, the song places them over an upbeat rhythm and includes Young K’s signature wit and humor.

He also addressed feedback he had received about his music lacking a darker or more aggressive edge.

“I’ve heard that I’m ‘nice’ or ‘good’ and that my music is missing some ‘badness.’ Rather than expressing bad as bad, I borrowed the concept of good and evil. Since evil is already clearly expressed, I thought it would be better to make good feel more clearly like good.”

This approach is clear throughout the album. He chose to highlight positivity and depth rather than forcing a darker sound.

Strong Digital Performance and Music Show Appearances

The album also performed well on digital music platforms. The title track “Shut The Door” entered Melon’s Top 100 chart at number 7 at midnight on the release day. All 15 tracks from the album entered Melon’s HOT 100 chart, which ranks new songs released within 100 days. The album took the top spot and filled positions 1 through 15 on that chart.

Young K has been actively promoting the album on music shows. He performed “Shut The Door” for the first time on Mnet’s “M Countdown” on July 30. He also appeared on KBS 2TV’s “Music Bank” and MBC’s “Show! Music Core” during the first week of release.

His promotional schedule continues with appearances on variety and radio shows including Jang Do-yeon’s “Salon Drip,” KBS Cool FM’s “Kiss the Radio,” and SBS Power FM’s “Music High”.

Solo Tour With Sold-Out Concerts

The album release is part of a larger solo project. Young K will kick off his solo tour, also named “YOUNGEST,” with three sold-out concerts at INSPIRE Arena in Incheon from August 14 to 16.

The tour will then move to other major Asian cities including Bangkok, Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore, Manila, and Kuala Lumpur. The tour will run from August 2026 through March 2027.

All three Incheon shows sold out quickly, showing strong demand for his solo performances. This tour marks his first major solo concert series since his debut solo album in 2023.

A Major Step Forward in His Solo Career

This comeback comes about two years and 10 months after his first full-length solo album “Letters with notes”. The jump in first-week sales from 40,000 to over 164,000 copies shows how much his solo profile has grown during that time.

Young K, whose real name is Kang Young-hyun, has been a member of DAY6 since the band debuted in 2015. He has written or co-written many of DAY6’s most popular songs. His solo work continues to build on that songwriting reputation while exploring his own musical tastes.

Fans have responded positively to the album’s depth and variety. Reviews have called it a “masterpiece filled with 15 tracks” and “an album like a gift set”. The combination of strong sales, chart performance, and concert ticket sales confirms that Young K has established himself as a major solo artist in addition to his work with DAY6.
